Anyone know of an accurate way to correlate a temp to the amount of radiation a snake is receiving from a radiant heat panel? That is, radiant heat does not equal ambient temp, so how can I measure how hot it feels to my snake when she's being warmed by a radiant heat panel?

Buy a temp gun and measure the snake itself.

What Wayne said. I always check warm side, cool side and snake temps every day. I've read that RHPs were good for ambient temp though. I'm planning some new enclosures that will have them.

Whether I use overhead heat lamps or UTH, I check my temps with that exact gun at least once a day - in addition to the thermometer I have directly above or below the heat source. It only takes a few seconds, and the peace of mind I get from knowing for sure goes a long way.

I use a Radiant heat panel in all of my vivs for ambient air temp. I LOVE them. I have a probe placed directly below the RHP and I use hot glue to hold it secure in place to the bottom of my viv. My vivs are 18" tall and I find that the substrate gets 3-4 degrees average above what the air temp is. However if you place a hide or any structure below the RPH that reading will change dramatically. I check the ground temp every few days to ensure nothing has changed but over the last year I have yet to have any issues at all.
