View Full Version : Introducing Wiley

I was going to wait a bit to introduce Wiley (Wy-lee), but he's just so darn cute and fun that I decided to just do it.

This 2-year-old male Antaresia maculosa just came to me yesterday and was looking a little dry so I decided to put him in a small tub and get a bit of humidity going for him. About 2 hours later I was surprised with a brand new paint job, which is funny because the previous owner told me he shed 2 days ago.

He'll change quite a bit over the next few weeks now that he's under proper conditions, so I'll post updates now and then so we can watch his skin get more and more polished as he beefs-up a bit. Although he's a bit nervous from being handled quite roughly in the past, he's really quite chill and curious, so with a bit of time and some gentle handling he should be a real treat :)

Yes, a Spotted Python that'll turn 3 this summer. Adults get about 4 feet, but since it's a male I would expect 3 1/2 or so, perhaps 4 feet in a few years.

UPDATE: On the 12th I gave Wiley an adult mouse because he needs to beef-up a little...

Today (14th/below) he's already digested, a little more plump and even though he's still in a quarantine tub, the better conditions have drastically improved his skin and he's starting to get a nice little iridescence building up. I can't wait to see what another moult and a few more meals do for him :D

what were his conditions like before that he wasn't doing so well in?
He's looking better already.

I didn't bother asking because it was irrelevant, but I do know they were keeping it in with a 4-year-old Royal Python, which is like putting a shoe lace in with a steam roller. These folks had ties to a local reptile 'eduction centre', so I can't say I'm surprised at the lack of knowledge they displayed while they were here dropping the little guy off. The only important thing now is that he's doing so much better ;)

Yep, and it only lasted 2 days, lol. He's a little under-weight but he'll be up to par in no time, I hope :)

As you can see, he's sure looking a lot better (below) than when he was brought to me 6 days ago.

The little trooper just had his 2n full-grown mouse in less than a week and this time I didn't have to play puppet show, he took it all on his own, which is apparently a first according to his previous owner. Go Wiley, Go Wiley! In a couple of months he should be right on-track :)

I like the bold lower jaw heat pits, those are cool! Not easy to see on these guys usually. So just when you thought they had none.... BAM! He looks great Todd, don't grow him up too big too fast lol.
