okay, so most of my cages are done.. right now everything is set up on rheostats.. i know, not the MOST pratical, but for now it is working.. i check temps every 2 hrs when im home... temps usually stay around the right temps, give or take maybe -2 to +3 degrees...

any way i want to get thermostats, and get all my wiring set up nice..

I currently have:

BRB
2 corns
2 cali king
4 bp
1 RTB

i was thinking of getting 3 thermostats..

having the corns on one set at 86
having the balls set on one at 92
BRB and RTB having one set on 85
and the cali kings set on 88?

also if my temps should be different, let me know as well, these are what they have been at for a year now, everything seems fine:)

im getting this Amazon.com: Hydrofarm MTPRTC Digital Thermostat For Heat Mats: Patio, Lawn & Garden (http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-MTPRTC-Digital-Thermostat-Heat/dp/B000NZZG3S) i currently have one now and i love it!

how many tanks will the 3 thermostats be running ?

imo,it's best to have a thermostat for EACH tank

if you have 1 stat running 2 tanks.....

if the tank with the thermostats PROBE suffers a heat source FAILURE,then.....

the probe will NOT heat up.....

so the 2ND tank run by that thermostat, will heat up to its maximum possible temperature, because the probe will remain cold in the tank with a broken heat source,this.....

will kill the snake in the 2ND tank mate

the above is my personal opinion,as i would always give each tank it's OWN stat, for peace of mind that i won't cook a snake.(not being cheeky)

cheers shaun

For security of the snakes i would definitely want a thermostat on each cage, it is more expensive but for me the risk isnt worth it :)

its more expensive yes- but it is what i am going to do.. so i think ill need to get 6... :)

some are still in tubs on a rheostat.

everything is monitored

its wooden vivariums i use

i just drill a hole in the back of the tank to feed the probe through into the tank

i then attatch the probe cable to the back of the tank, securing the probe where its needed

cheers shaun

the way i have it is... flexwatt, then plexi on top of it, with like 1/8 of an inch so i can slide out the flexwatt...

so not too sure where i will put it, could i put it on top of the plexi glass\?

I would drill out a bit of the plexi and put the probe between the plexi and the flexwatt.
Do you have your t-stats yet? If not I bought some ones designed specifically for heat mats that works great and only cost me $25.

Those actually look like decent thermo's. 1000watts and way cheap compared to helix.

i have 1 as of now, and it works great!!

dont think i would spend the money on a helix, unless i get a huge collection i suppose!

Racks are nice because then you don't need as many thermos I have one for desert climate snakes and one for more humid animals and may get a big rack soon and see how the viv electronics thermo does with multi racks. I think they can have multi probes.

i had the rack, got tired of it, i like seeing them...

personally, for me its easier, however... when i start to breed, all babies will go into a rack. my "pets" are in custume cages

i i will need.... 3-4 more... my babies are still in tubs and heat tape with 1.. so ill buy 5-6 and be done :)
