So I got a double het sunglow female thats 4 1/2 feet healthy and great eater that I was planning on pairing with one of our males next year. He is only about 3'.

Now I have read a few places that she could be ready to go this year and some do breed thier snakes this young. I havent ever done it Im guessing there are risks just like with animal if they are bred too young. Has anyone here had any experience in this?

Also our male may not be up for it but I do have another I could pair her with but the outcome wont be as desirable. At what size and age does a male start couting the lady snakes?
Here are a couple of pics since well I like to show off my babies. 1st one is the female

I am unsure of the details but IMO I would wait. It's not worth risking your snakes health to take a chance.

if i was you i would wait, breeding too young can kill your boa, she can have only slugs, or the babies can be preemies. best is to feed her and get her up to size for the next breeding season.

Males are ready to breed around 18 months.

I would wait another season. Most female boas wont breed until they are least six feet in length.Unless it is dwarf species.
Males might breed at 18 months,if they have grown enough say about three and half feet in length. In my experience most males wont breed this young.

Thanks everyone :) I didnt think they would be ready and if there is any risks for her I certainly wont chance it. I love my babies too much for that.

I have no idea but I would wait so next year she will be bigger.

She is 3 and he is a salmon although for some reason he looks yellow in that pic. I would take another pic but he is about to shed at the moment.
