I bought a jungle carpet python from my local petshop and wondering if it really is a jungle since I don't see many jungle pics that look like him.

Looks like a Coastal to me. But I'd like to see more pics to be sure.

It does look very similar to the coastal I had.

I third coastal. Better pictures with better (outdoor) lighting would help, preferably without the flash. If you can't do outdoor pictures, put him by a window in the morning.

Coastal. Beautiful snake.

Just rememeber, without exact lineage, you can't say for certain, especially thanks to jags. It's no pure jungle though.
Welcome! I love your screen name, I'm a huge HHGttG.
Cool looking snake too. :)

although it looks similar to some of the tiger coastals produced,i'd say its most likely a jungle jaguar sibling mate
a coastal jungle cross that did not inherit the jaguar gene
imo thats where the pet shops getting the name " jungle " from
sadly unless you know who bred it,theres no way of knowing what it really is
its a nice looking carpet though mate
i especially like the lack of head pattern on it (imo its very unusual)

Looks very much like a 50/50 jungle coastal I have. But as stated before, carpet lineage is so mixed, that without known blood, you really can't say. I've seen IJ like carpets from traceable coastal lineages show up. Not to mention that on the genetic level, coastals and jungles are very similar if not the same, and in the wild the jungles range is completely surrounded by the coastals. The variability of these taxa are definitely one of the things that keeps me interested.

I Second The sibling theory, although that striping is a bit of a wild card

How about possibly a jungle x tiger jag sib? Definitely got some nice striping there though it's hard to tell if it's due to the tiger gene or not.

i'm no expert pal,more a carpet nutter :wacky::yes:

heres a 75% jungle jag (so not a lot of coastal in her) with a full dorsal stripe, that looks like a tiger (wish it was)

with carpets you really need to know the history to be sure what you have
its a nice looking carpet you have and it will be interesting to see how it develops colour wise

Very nice Shaun! I have a jungle x tiger jag and her sib on the way from Erin B next week. Can't wait to see how they color up.
I agree with shaun, I may have jumped the gun saying Tiger, however not exactly. Tiger can also be used in the polygenic term, as in line bred trait. I'm sure if you bred this to another non genetic dorsal striped snake, you would have a variety of partially to fully striped babies. Just natural variety in carpet pythons, especially jaguar siblings. The difference is there's no garuntee, it could just be a fluke specimen and have all normal patterned babies as well. Regardless, its a great looking snake on its own!
