So I went out back, raked up some leaves, scooped up more clay, did some wiring, gathered up some drain pipe, and have been keeping busy getting things set up for Tuesday when Littlefoot moves in.

I installed a 4 foot UVB light, the frame is from an aquarium light hood, so the humidity will not hurt it, I also used a cord from a Christmas light string with the tiny fuse in the plug so that if anything goes wrong the fuse will blow quickly...

I also installed two other lights, removing one of the basking lamps for now, since I will not need so much basking area for a while.

I just got done playing two real Chippy hockey games and thought I was in a good mood. After seeing this it just doesn't compare!!!

One suggestion/ question. Shouldn't that power outlet be gfi because of all the moisture?

You mean this here thing i am installing in the wall behind the enclosure?? By keeping the GFI out of the enclosure, it will not trip unnecessarily.

While I am at it, first coat of the sealer I am using. The exposed wood (Non treated plywood) started growing mold on it, so I sanded off all the mold, and am sealing it. I will be using about 4 coats of it, I have 3 days for it to dry, and it's acrylic based, so non toxic.

Great!

Hey, Wayne... I almost got a sav today. Problem is, it was nine months old and had been fed nine months of hard boiled eggs. No thank you! Reptile expo's next weekend, anyway.

No promises, but if I can make this work, I think it will be awesome.. It's a colour security camera, I want to mount it inside the cage, it rotates and tilts with a remote control.

Well I'm decent with electronics, so the hardest part is the reciever does not have a standard USB cord, it has a "video out" (for use with a TV/DVR) but I have a capture card for my PC, so it should work.

all done sealing..

Looks good Wayne, and the camera system would be amazing. It'll be especially cool when he is small and you dont want to scare him, but still want to see what he is up to. Nice touch!

Me too...

I was very clueless about many things when we first got Chomper, and we forced ourselves on him. Got very lucky we did not harm him in that aspect.

quick question.... is LittleFoot arriving in a box? as in he's shipped? Or are you picking him up?

That would be sweet, but we use the computers too much.

Littlefoot will arrive just as Chomper did, in a deli cup inside a dark box with a heat pack.

It's a traumatic experience, so once he/she arrives, the very first thing that is going to happen is to be immediatly placed in the enclosure and left alone for the next day or two after.

The very worst thing anyone could do is start bothering the poor little thing right off the fed ex truck.

Breeder... I WISH.

Littlefoot is another hatchling from eggs imported from Africa

It's a sad process, eggs are dug up in Africa and sold for very little over here.

I can only imagine, if the baby monitors average $35-40 retail, then they must be about $20 wholesale, factor in shipping from Africa and some African kid got paid 50 cents an egg to violate Sav nests.

youngster
01-30-12, 08:53 AM
There's no CBB savannahs?

infernalis
01-30-12, 09:20 AM
Extremely rare.

Another very sad fact, Chomper out lived 99% of the Savs imported by 4 years or more.

Many wind up in fish tanks with screen tops, get fed dog food, fall victim to RAPID dehydration, are kept too cold and get respiratory infections quickly, are mauled by well meaning people until they just give up and stress to death.

That baby pic is cute and a hoot!

I imagine many folks hear "savanah" and "Africa" and because the savanahs of Africa are hot and dry they assume those conditions for the monitor.

I think the forum is as anxious to see Little Foot as you are Wayne!
