I still get blown away daily when I check on these gems. Of course the four amazing Candy Stripe animals are insane. The others are not too shabby as well
Following this post will be individual group posts on what I think are "normals" "Het Candy Stripes" "Super Candy Stripes" and one more on Candy Soup.
This has been an amazing few months, watching them grow and mature. Still a long way to go but it still feels like day one, amazed and blown away. Discussions with friends and family have led me to a revelation. I believe the Super Candy Stripes to be the most intense looking BRB's ever created. Even more intense than the lone WC Albino. If that is correct, I have in my possession the top four BRB's ever!! And the only known carriers of the gene. How's that for a mind blowing thought?
A couple of "normals" from the litter....

There are several others but most were in shed. I'm calling this group "normal" since they do not show clear signs of the Candy Striped trait. They very well could be hets if the trait is actually recessive.
This group has the same dorsal striping the parents had to one degree or the other. I suspect this is the heterozygous expression of the Candy Stripe trait.

All the descriptions based on my assumption that the gene is co-dominant.

It's going to be a while, I have to raise up the babies to become breeders, then do all the breeding trials to prove it's genetic and identify the mode of inheritance.
All in all about 3 - 4 years.

I wonder, the hets all seem to have a full, or nearly full dorsal stripe, but the candy stripes have the wide stripe, I wonder if its a more apt to consider the "het" a co-dom and the stripes the "super" form?

That's exactly what I mean. I think with the evidence I have at this time that the trait is Co-Dominant, by definition having visibly different levels of expression for animals with one versus two morph genes.
Heterozygous Candy stripe animals having one single morph gene.
Expressed as - dorsal connected patterns and some color intensity.
Homozygous Candy stripe animals having two morph genes (Super Cangy Stripe)
Expressed as - full dorsal striping, side patterns jumbled, Intense neon pink and orange coloring, mostly black head and pink tongues.
Fun stuff..............

Yeah, will be nice when they are all old enough to breed. I honestly think the "hets" will prove out as they look just like the parents did as neonates. But have to take the project one step at a time. First step is to prove the trait is genetic.

I think you should breed one "het" to a known normal and see what pops out. That way you can verify if you've got a dom/co-dom or just a normal recessive.

Several breeding trials need to be done...
Het x Het - technically already done with Zoe and Ziggy and will be doing that one again this year to confirm.
Het x Normal - Have that planned for this year although it's het x Hypo for DH's.
Super x Het - Need to raise a super up - probably 2013 since it can be male Super x Zoe
Super x Super - Need to raise two supers up - possibly 2013, 2014 for sure since the female Super needs to be up to age/size.
Super x Normal -Need to raise a super up - probably 2013 since it can me male Super x any adult normal.
2013/2014 will be the big proving year(s) and will likely have babies available then.

None taken, in BRB anery is not all that obvious as they mature. As babies it's much clearer.....
This picture with several babies shows the difference...

that looks much clearer, too bad they don't stay that distinguishable. I think I've said this before, but snow BRBs should look killer.

02-06-12, 12:53 PM
Agreed, by itself in BRB's I don't think Anery is all that cool looking. As adults they are like some that brown out with the exception being they still have white crescents. The true potential of Anery will be realized when combining with other traits like Albino, Hypo and/or Pearl.

I know a few breeders across the pond that I'm sure will wnat some once they are available. Of course up to them to be quiet or vocal when the time comes.
