View Full Version : Boa identification assistance
I was sold this Boa as a Peruvian Long Tail. There has been some controversy among my fellow herpetologists as to what this snake really is. Most agree that it is NOT 100% Longicauda, but as to what it might be no one can agree. One told me it is a Nicaraguan boa, another said a dark Central American boa, and still another said it looks like a cross between a Long Tail and ???
Here are some photos. If anyone can give me some insight as to what this is I would be extremely grateful.

I see a nic myself. Could be a CA though. I'm not much of a boa guy... Caylan.s.
I can't help, but he's very pretty.

It's definitely a red tail.
Looks BCC to me but I'm not a boa person either.
No matter what it turns out to be, it's gorgeous!

Although I can't give you any help to what it is, I just wanted to say that I LOVE the eyes! Beautiful animal to be sure and although it's sad about the scaring on the nose, I think it's adds character and really brings out the markings on the face. :)

I can't tell you what he is, but he is BEAUTIFUL for sure! I love his face especially. What a gorgeous snake. Besides, unless you're planning on breeding him, what's it matter to know? :)

It almost looks like a cross between an Argentine boa (B.c. longicaudus) and a central American. The mottled markings on the face scream Argentine, but the body pattern isn't quite right for pure Argentine. It's a head-scratcher, but a beautiful boa nonetheless.
It looks like a nicaraguan, but the face looks like a peruvian long tail.I would say a cross of the two.It also looks to big for a straight nicaraguan. Nice looking snake!

I needed to know what to call her because I was selling her on craigslist. I ended up just listing as a "Adult Female Boa" and got fifty-bucks for her.
Wanted to keep her but I was running out of room, so someone had to go.

I agree kim... The head shape and marking are screaming b.c.longicaudus but that dark body and high saddle count make me think CA/sonoran/nic.. Stunning snake tho.. :-)

Argentine boa is B.c. occidentalis, NOT longicauda. Its NOT a longicauda either.
Its a non-descript B.c. imperator, quite possibly from Central America, as most localities are CA

I have absolutely no idea what is it, but that is one GORGEOUS boa!
I love it's head pattern, most particularly the underside of it.
Looks to me like a bci, it is most defiantly not a bcc. $50 sounds fair.

Thanks, Kayla...I thought so too , which is why I bought her. The kid who just bought her from me flipped out over her. I think she will be well-loved!!
