I have a 4x2x4 melamine enclosure that I need to fill. I am looking for suggestions. I want something thats a not too much work and upkeep and preferably can be kept as a pair. Lizards/ Snakes/ etc.

If I where you I would look into Varanus Acanthurus (red or yellow Ackie monitors) That enclosure could house 2 nicely. IMO they are fairly low maintenance.

I am kinda not looking for monitors but ackies may do. I just sold my blue trees thats why its empty.

4x2x4 is a little on the small side for ackies. Definitely too small for blue trees. I'm glad they're out of there now. What about a uromastyx?

From everything I have read that is the perfect size for a pair of ackies.. BarelyBreathing can you send me any links to show me other wise? I am looking to get some ackies once I move and I want to make sure I can house them properly when I do so. I am still unsure of the space I will have but I will make their enclosure as large as I can.

I would put a single ackie in a viv that size but not a pair, when we had our single he was in a 4x2x2foot enclosure which gave him plenty of room to run around like a loon

The blue trees were only in there temporarily and they were a juvie pair. Definitely not an adult pair. They had plenty of room to one around :D. Anybody have any non-monitor recommendations?

Is the viv 4ft wide by 4ft long? Or is it 4ft high? Makes a big difference to floor space so obviously allows different options to fill it.....

Good question. I always tend to automatically think and read it as width x depth x height

i think of it length x width x height

Length is and width is the same.. depth is from front to back.

i thought width is how wide some thing is and length was how long it is that what i was taught

Depends how you look at it... But it's always best to check or we could be giving bad advice...

even when you look at length and width are different i got my math book out in grade school
length:the longest extent of anything as measured from end to end
width:extent from side to side

I'd put a single ackie in a 4x4x4 as a raise up enclosure. I always like to use this formula for my monitor enclosures for minimum sizes: The length of the enclosure should be three times the length of the monitor. The depth of the enclosue should be twice the length of the monitor.
Let's see, I've suggested uromastyx. You can do corn snakes or Kenyan sand boas, although most keepers don't recommend keeping snakes in pairs. You can do a few frogs or salamanders.

As the ackie we had was about 14 inches long then 4foot wide by 2foot deep by 2foot high fits this formula :)

The last ackies I had were a bit bigger. Actually, almost double that size.

I have read tons on Varanus Acanthurus and I see them being average of 12-18" and not much larger at all. The people I know that keep them have 10 and all of them are around 14-15".

Mine were 21 and 23"

It is 4 foot wide, 2 feet deep, and 4 foot tall.

And again, any non monitor suggestions? I don't keep colubrids so corn snakes are not an option and I am not going to put a sand boa in a four foot tall enclosure thats just a waste.

What about a EBT or GTP?

Or ATB.
Why no colubrids? You could put a few garters in there. They would use the height I think.

I don't know if it would fit but what about a small carpet?

I already have two carpets and a GTP. I was thinking about the amazon tree boas. But don't know yet if I want to get them. And honestly there is only one species of colubrid I would get and thats mangrove snakes.

I think I may go with a pair of leachies. I don't know too much about geckos though. I have leopard geckos but thats about it lol. I have to do a lot of research first. Suggestions are still welcomed.

Jeweled Lacertas are amazing you could have a pair they would use the whole space if you build up they will climb it they also like to burrow

I don't want to read the rest of the thread, but I see Kat mentioned Ackies, and my vote would go to those or a chondro/etb. A viv that size belongs to a display animal, get something mind blowing.
