Adopted him a couple years ago from a gent who said he was a "Bubblegum" ratsnake.

Great pics, love the captions. How long have you had him? how old is he? Does he tolerate handling? thanks for sharing!

Alessia, I've had him for about 2yrs. Don't know how old he was when I adopted him. He's over 5ft long if that helps to narrow it down to a ballpark figure.
As far as temperment, he's a sweetheart. Very chill. He's tagged me once and that was my fault. He was behind my printer and heading for the floor. I reached for him quickly afraid he might fall and I think startled him. A minute or two later I reached for him again ... but more slowly ... and he was fine.

Sooo cute! Have you ever had him probed, to make sure he's a boy? over 5 feet seems long for a male rat snake, doesn't it? I am not that familiar with them though. What a beauty...cute cute pics!
Jaleely, in rat snakes the males are larger than the females. Males can reach 5 feet easy and females typically only reach 4 foot, but that's not to say a female can't reach 5feet.

Nope. I figure it isn't that crucial since I have no intention of breeding him. Also I remember hearing -- though I do not remember the source and so realize the verity of the information may be questionable -- that particularly with adult snakes probing can cause injuries.
A gent who breeds corns (and has been for years) with whom I spoke at a herp show said that based on body form, he's 'reasonably' sure Osiris is a boy. (He did say, however, that the only way to be !00% sure was to try to breed him with a known sexed snake or perhaps probing. I do recall that he was not an advocate of the probing option in Osiris' case.)

That's bull. If done right, there is NO risk of injury. However I stress to EVERYONE that if you don't experience doing it then don't do it, have a expert do it.

Popping is safe if done correctly as is probing.
