Calci sand is a HUGE no no. The safest thing to use for substrate are paper towels, tile, newspaper, or linoleum. If you insist on using particle substrate, use children's washed play sand (available at any hardware store). Be sure his food bowl is up off the sand, though, and feed any live prey items in a separate container. Sand is a know cause of impaction.

this is the sand ive been using for awhile with my bull snake Big Apple Sparkle Magic Reptile Terrarium Sand - 40 Color Choices (http://www.bigappleherp.com/Big-Apple-Sparkle-Magic-Terrarium-Sand)
i just barely started feeding in a separate cage a few month's ago my bull snake is aggressive so I'm trying something but neither my bull or night or my desert king i use to have had any problems abut it could be a different story with lizards tho

I did not say I was using it or going to use it.Was just asking a question. The substrate I picked was because it was bigger size pebbles..less chance of injesting it....It least that was the theory.

I know, I was responding to your question. In all reality, finer particles will pass easier than larger ones.

I didn't ask you the question.I was asking what he/she used for a substrate.

It's not you, my guess is everyone is on edge because of all this bad press and stuff going around.
PS no offense intended to anyone, I'm pretty tense right now myself. :)

Tile is honestly the best Dragon substrate, I love it. If you worry about the burrowing or anything a lot of people have mini blankets or towels they use. But tile is great, trims nails, extremely easy to clean, its a one time buy and there is no risk with it.
Other wise though very handsome beardie, try giving a few soaks to get that stuck shed off :D

Wow, no need to be rude. Myself and the person who made the first comment are just trying to ensure that your animal is happy and healthy.
I had always used reptile carpet with mine, but I have recently switched to tile and I LOVE it. It's so easy to clean. When her messes on one, I just take it out, wash it off and stick it back in.

Actually you kinda did ask the question about using calci-sand

Nice beardy, reminds me of mine...
As for substrate
I've always used sand... Now I do half tile and half sand. The sand is for him, the tile is for me lol. I can't/don't have the patience/time anymore to run a full sanded vivarium. As my collection expanded my dedicated time for each animal has lessened so a compromise was reached.

I went from full washed play sand, to half sand half tile, to newspaper
Thanks for the advice everybody.

With my limited experience I have found that sand irritates them and that it is easir and cheap to use newspaper, tile, or something similar

I use childrens play sand... he came to me on it and has been on it ever since. it doesnt irritate him or cause any problems for him. he likesto dig in it and he has a food bowl that his salad gets pit in so he doesnt injest it. i am careful about that... I like the sand... i use a big strainer to clean the sand every month when i do my BIG cleaning and spot scoop with a mini strainer daily if needed. I personally like the substrate... I tried papertowel and hated it... tried tile..hated it even more... so i put him back on the sand and i find its best...for me... maybe not for everyone...and def not for a baby beardie...
