I need your help with something

I aquired a freebie hatchling a few months back that wasnt eating and was showing signs of severe malnutrition, After a month of force feeding wieght seemed to be back up, and she was even taking the occasional meal

Its been almost two months and a new problem has showed up

She is eating fine, But after her shed two nights ago, the skin on her spine, split for about an inch

From What I can tell the initial malnutrition must have been far more severe than i thought

The wound does not bleed, and i have kept it clean and treated the area with betadine, i then used a liquid bandage to hold the skin together, She is lively and seems to be just fine, but i find that hard to believe with a hole in her skin

My concerns are one Is this something other than malnutrition, and two should i schedule an appointment with my vet to have the skin sutured

I can't help you because I don't know what sort of advice to give you, but I wanted to wish you the best. It is clear you care about her and I hope she recovers fast! Hopefully someone here on the forum will have an answer for you. Good luck!

I would go to the vet to see what the underlying cause of this is. Even if it heals you never know what is going on below the skin and causing damage.

Awe poor thing, I hope she gets better.. But I agree, you can never be to certain about what's going on under her skin.. I'd visit the vet just in case :(

Whilst there is a wound there keep the viv as dust/dirt free as possible, no substrate just paper towels.

I also would get a vet to check it out.

I've helped my two who were literally down to ribs and spine showing, and after sheds did not have them have ripped skin...wow. poor thing!
Maybe because they were already pretty much grown, and she is so little.
Def get all substrate out...use only paper towels, keep the meds on, and yup liquid bandaid is what i would have thought of too...although that stuff *Burns* so i hope the wound is not too deep.

If it looks like it's going to spread at all, she needs to be at the vet asap because that is flesh eating bacteria. Oh it's not as rare as it seems! My mom just had it, and there was an out break of it in her town! They said it was as easy to get as just pushing a shopping cart after someone who has it.

you might also try putting mineral oil all over the snake. That could have been one of the reasons why i didn't face this problem when the two i rescued were so severely dehydrated and malnourished. I totally mothered them and added my own mixture of mineral oil and glycerin on their skin, to keep them moist.

Good News, Took her to a vet, His opinion was it was caused by Severe malnutrition, and the mites

He recommended if it looks like it is getting Wider to get her in for stitches, but since shes so small, and the tear isnt huge he doesn't want to risk it

She is currently in an ICU my Friend set up, if all goes well she will be healthy in a few sheds :D
