Hey guys... So I am going to an expo in 3 weeks and I have decided that I really really want to get a few Crested Gecko's. I do have a 40 gallon breeder tank as well as a 10 gallon fish tank. I was thinking of using those depending on how large the gecko's I get are. I want to get 2 female and 1 male. I am looking into how to set up their habitat. I will wait and purchase another enclosure if needed but I dont see why I can't make what I have work. Can you share pictures with me of how you have yours set up?? Any good tips or tricks would be nice also. Thanks!!

I haven't kept cresteds in a long time but since I had babies when I did I honestly flipped faunariums on their ends and kept them in those. paper towel bottoms, a small plant of branches for a bit to hang and hide out in and voila! Done and done.

Also if you plan to get 3 I would recommend a third enclosure as a quarantine method. People tend to forget this step.

I do have 7-8 Quarantine tubs all set and ready to go for whatever we get..lol

Flipping it on end is a good way to go.. didn't really think about that!

I had thought of getting a Crested a while back. What I was going to do for a cheap, light enclosure was this... A 110qt tub situated on it's end. Believe it or not, it is pretty stable - but adding a heavy, flat rock inside on the bottom might not be a bad idea for more stability.

Making a front mesh door out of the lid is also no problem. Just wanted to add to the "think tank".

Well I have a 40 gallon breeder tank that I was hopeful to use. I am still thinking and trying to picture what I will end up with. If I was to flip that up on end and build a door for it , it should be more than ok. I was thinking flexwatt under the bottom to keep the temp up and do they need a basking light? I have seen yes and no.. I think not. I guess I am wanting to see more of good idea's for show piece displays as this will be in the main part of the house.

I would not put three in a 40 gallon that is massive for such small lizards I would not use it because it might cause some problems I would go with a 29 gallon. You could probably get one that sized or similar sized of craigslist for very cheap. Then I would put in things like

Exo Terra Jungle Vine Small (http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/terrarium-decor-and-live-plants/terrarium-plants-vines-and-terrarium-accents/-/exo-terra-jungle-vine-small/)

Exo Terra Large Amapallo Jungle Plant (http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/terrarium-decor-and-live-plants/terrarium-plants-vines-and-terrarium-accents/-/exo-terra-large-amapallo-jungle-plant/)

Those and other fake plants (those are examples) then some eco earth (if adults) and water and crested gecko diet and you have a pretty nice looking setup!

Thanks for the input. I have some 10-15 gallon ones to start them off in and once they are established I could transfer them into that 40?

I have a group of five in a 40 breeder. It's well planted with tons of hides and feeding stations.

That's along the lines of what I want to do...
I thought it was always better to give them more height? I would love to not have to flip my 40 gallon on its end. It will make it soooo much easier.

It depends. I have these five in a 40breeder and they do amazingly well. Then I havea group of three and a group of two both in 12x12x18 Exo Terras. The group of three will be moving up to their permanent enclosure soon. I also have two hatchlings in critter keepers. Basically, they do like more vertical space than horizontal space, but if you keep them in groups you will need both. Also, it's important to remember to provide as many feeding areas as you have geckos in the enclosure. I learned this the hard way.

That's good to know! I never heard that one. I knew that you should offer a few feeding area's in a larger enclosure. I will defiantly have 3 feeding zones then.

I love that idea, I'm wanting to do something like that with my little Cresties when I get the shot. My family friend just gave me a 55Gal, and once all mine are to a healthy weight I cannot wait to move them into it. Right now I only have three, 2.1 but they're awesome, I'm not gonna put more then one male in a tank however. I cannot wait to see pictures of your set up, I wish you luck.

I would let them get established feeding and getting the feel of things in the house before moving them into the 40, then keep an eye on them so you see the do know where the food stations are for a couple weeks. Other then that, amazing idea and as I stated. Cannot wait for pictures.

Thanks, Jarich. I try to use live plants when and where ever I am able. It helps with humidity, maintenance, as well as habitat, like you said.
