okay, so i am leaving in 10 min. to go get some melamine and make enclosures...all pics and questions will go here.
i am building 8 cages that will measure 3x1x16 (3 ft long, 1 foot tall, and 16 inches deep) and i was just wondering if the 1ft high will be okay, there will be NO HEAT BULB, as i will be heating cage with UTH, or flexwatt (like gun girl i believe) i figure that the 3x1x16 cages are bigger than 41qt tubs, so it should be okay..
any way, i will be posting pics of everything... and all 8 cages, since i may change sum stuff up here and there... :)
pics will start later today :)
Cool project. Can't wait to see pics.

Hope some one can answer in like 3 min.... Would 1 foot deep be okay, instead of 16''??? These will be for corner, bp and kingsnakes?...

I tend to think 1 foot will be a bit narrow.. then again if you where only going to do 16" then you are only making it 4" narrower. Not a huge difference. If anything I would go larger than 16" not smaller.. IMO

i went with 16'' wide :)

so here are some pics!
just the stuff i went and got today!
enough melamine to make 2 cages, and left over melamine for the sides of the 3rd cage, i will only be making 4 due to the fact my king and 3rd corn are still babies, so they dont need a big cage..
any way pics :

yea, i think it will be better, not only for more room, but since ill be stacking 5-6 cages, it will provide more study of an area....
can I borrow your staple gun?

this is the 1st cage i started. i just got done sealing the corners and edges, but i did leave a small gap for the flexwatt to slide through... it is going to sit and let the sylicone dry
putting the doors on tomorrow, i just need to grab some 3'x2'' piece of wood:)

got some more work done today..
got the aluminum door tracks cut and put in place, and got the flexwatt cover started
i am going to put plexi over the flexwatt and i used pop cycle stick type of things and put around the flexwatt, and the plexi will be over it... so it is no directly on the flexwatt.

Looking like its coming together good for you. Make sure you seal all joints and the flexwatt you don't want it getting any water or moisture on it.

I will... i think i am going to take some sylicone and put on top of the little wooden pieces and around it, then place the plexi on top to "glue" it on.. the flexwatt will slide right out back when i need to replace, and the best part is, i have it so all the wiring is OUTSIDE of the cage!!!
more to come tomorrow

Yeah That's how we did ours. It's the safest way to do it IMO.

you know Gungirl... after looking it over.. i really feel the same way, i am SURE some one will disagree, but that is their choice.. but with the wiring outside of the cage, in the back, i really think it will be safe.
any way, more pics, got the doors on, and the plexi "Floor" in..

pretty much all finished, tomorrow b4 work, i will put more sealing around some edges, and some touch up paining... being NYE, i prolly wont do anything else on it till new years day.
the tape was on just to hold stuff in place, while i glued/drilled... and the protective covering is still on the doors:)

got more wood to make 4 total cages, thats all i NEED right now, my king snake is still a wee baby, she doesnt need a big cage yet, and my rtb, not sure what i will be making for him.
Look very similar to my cages I have. Sorry crap pic I took it at night. I need to make a few more for my little guys that are growing up.

Very nice looking cages, what do you use as handles?
If you look in the bottom corner of the glass you can see little beveled? squares stuck right onto the glass
