My RTB has finally gone into shed! I was getting worried, since I've had it since August without a single shed. I thought maybe I wasn't feeding it enough so I started feeding it 2 pinkies instead of one every five days. Unfortunately, there are no pics as of yet since all of the batteries in the house are MIA.

Shouldn't baby RTBs be on bigger food than pinks? Are they mouse pinks or rats?

That's what I was thinking, but I didn't have any available at the time, but I should soon so I can feed one fuzzy instead of two pinkies. (I have 10 left-over pinkies, when they run out I'll replace with fuzzies.) There's been no weight loss, a steady weight so it should be fine until then. Not overweight either.

Would love to see pics of your RTB. Colombian BCI? When was he/she born? My Hog was part of a July 2011 clutch, and being an insular dwarf locale, it would be interesting to see how she compares size-wise to your RTB. Since I got her in late November, she's been chowing down one adult mouse per week. I tried a small rat pup last week to see if she was ready to transition, but no go just yet. I'll probably offer a rat pup once a month from now on to see if she transitions.

Congrats on the shed!

Get ready to try scenting mike. My bci was born this spring. I got him in may. He is thirty inches or so.

That's probably my next step. Should work out well because our kingsnake will likely always eat mice, so as long as they're on roughly the same feeding schedule, I will always have access to a mouse for scenting. Will give that a try for the next attempt at a rat feeding.

I should be able to post pics tomorrow, as I will finally have batteries. Eyes are just now starting to cloud up.
I am not sure how old he/she is, the person I got it from didn't know when it was born, but it has to be an '11 clutch. I'm guessing the length to be between 18-24 in. I am fairly sure it's BCI after many opinions on the matter. I started my snake out on rats so no transitioning for me. :) Never had a problem with eating, immediate strike, no questions asked. Wish my BP was as easy....takes him forever to strike. My BP sheds every time I feed him, and even more often during the first year or two I had him, so I was getting pretty panicky there.

Okay got batteries finally, so here's some pics! :D Her eyes aren't yet completely clouded up, but you can see they're getting there. And here's one of Bud in the blue, he shed awhile ago, but I wasn't there to see him in all his glory. :(

How was her temperment? Mine is in the midst of shedding for the first time since I have had her and her attitude has totally changed. Won't leave her hide, and hissy and snappy. Just wondered if you had the same experience.

nope my female will even tolerate handling during her shed though I dont usually handle her once she goes into shed her temps hover around 90 on the hot side and around 70 on the cold side I mist once a day I would imagine the humidity stays around 70

I don't have problems during shed with either my reptiles either, my BP doesn't care even when his eyes are completely blue. If I leave him alone he stays in his hide all day and comes out at night. So far, my RTB switches from cool to hot side normally even while in shed. Right now she's on the hot side and her eyes appear to have cleared up even though they never completely clouded up....

My BP hasn't shed in two months, he's finally blue, not sure what's taken him so long. I wouldn't worry about it unless its a bad shed.

She finally shed last night, and it was a perfect shed! All in one piece! She'll be fed later today, she must be hungry. Hasn't eaten since she started shedding. Her shed's a little bit dirty. :P Excuse the dirt, I took the pic before I wiped everything down after replacing the bedding.

I'm fairly certain s/he's a Colombian BCI. The end of her tail is the most vivid bloodred and darkens further up to a muddy bloodred. She's very docile, too. Loves to come out, and is difficult when it comes time to put her back in. lol Sometime soon I'm going to have her and my BP sexed, I may be surprised lol.
