When I first obtained my Red-Tailed boa from a breeder, she had an respiratory tract infection. I noticed she was making odd sounds like clicking or snoring, she would open her mouth to breathe once in a while, she would not eat, and there was bubbles coming from her mouth as well as her nostrils.
I had her treated and she did well for a while.
However, when I have her out I notice her sometimes making the clicking or snoring sounds. Usually while out she'll stay on my shoulders and will keep still. When she begins moving (usually if I start moving my arms for any reason) I can hear her clicking or snoring. She does not make these noises while sitting with me, at least not as often as when she is moving. When she is roaming my (snake-proof) room, she does not make this sound. Is it stress or a possible RTI?
Before you answer, I should specify the environment.
-Her tank retains heat well, but not humidity.
-She has grown some so her tank is a tad cramped (working on building a larger enclosure)
-The room she roams is snake-proof and under my supervision (eg blocked ducts, no furniture, covered wall outlets) and while the temperature is maintained at 80 degrees year round there is little to no humidity.
-She tends to make the noises when coiled up or in an odd position. There are no bubbles from her mouth or mucus in her nose as I saw with her previous RTI
-As of right now she has just moved from her "blue-eye" phase of shedding and is awaiting shed. She has not been fed for about a week because of shedding.
-Usually her noises are accompanied by quick movement.
Please fill me in on the situation. I'm hoping it is just stress, but if she does in fact have an RTI I want to get it treated ASAP.
Also, any information about the do's/don't's of my handling would be greatly appreciated.
PS- I first noticed the snoring/clicking sound a few nights ago while changing her water dish (she was in the blue eye phase). This is my first time letting her out for a while, but I never hear her making the noises while in her cage.
