.... the effects of a camera flash on a reptile's vision?

I finally got the pair if 50% het Toffees I mentioned I believe last week, and really couldn't be more excited! After helping them both with shed removal last night, (eye caps included. Yea!) They both settled into their new digs quite nicely. I woke up to one who apparently love last night's soak so much he/she decided to soak amongst itself, and the other tucked away nicely in her hide.

There had been reports of one striking at the glass with any movement in the room, dlbut I saw none of that at all, even while peeling skin off the feces/eyes!

Both tanks got a good scrubbing and P.A.M. treatment, and are now on paper towels, so I can see if any mites do show up. I saw no signs of any on them or in the water dishes, but I'm not taking any chances..

Pics will be up soon, which is what prompted this post. Do you think repeated camera flashes affect a snake at all??

Let the conversations..... BEGIN!

I've been taking photos of my 2yr old ball python Kaybe since the day I got him. I take photos almost weekly with flash, and I don't see any negative effects on him. I think there's another thread on here that discussed the effects of a camera's flash on reptiles and it was concluded that it's not harmful.... I'll see if I can dig that up :)

You know I was just thinking the same thing as I was taking pics of my new girl. But it doesn't seem to affect them in the moment (none of my 6 react at all to the flash) but long term??

Allesia, I must search up that thread myself for a good read.

i notice you said " peeling the skin off the eye caps " im not being cheeky mate, but you have to be carefull not to damage the eyes lens, when removing retained eyecaps

i use viscotears if theres any problems regarding eye caps

maybe you should post it and have it stickied!!

I would like to know too!! I don't assist my snakes to shed, but I check each one for eye caps once the whole thing is off the snake. So far, so good. both eye caps have been attached to the shed on every shed that has happened in my house!!

Thanks all for the precautions. I've had to do this in the past with great success. I promise, I am overly-cautious with everything I do with any of my snakes. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate being reminded of this important stuff! That's exactly the reason we're here!

Thanks again...keep it comin'!
