Wooooo I just got in my book tonight :D so excited to finally be able to read it!!!
For any carpet lovers in Canada interested, send me a pm and I'll give you the email of the guy selling them.
I believe he is selling a few copies for $70 including the shipping which is well worth it since I think the actual book is worth $80
It is 339 pages and filled with lots of pictures :D

still a load of dead leucy's mate
i think it was in japan one lasted a few hours out the egg,but it had some very serious neuro issues
rolph milkellson in europe is currently working with bredl jaguars, some people are thinking that the bredl now being classed as its own species, may have the genetics to aid/stregnthen the plight for living leucys
i would love to see an adult carpet leucy mate
hypo = hypomelanistic, which is an animal with reduced melanin ( black pigmentation).
heterozygous/hets = hetero meaning different, having 2 different alleles for a genetically inheritable trait

Would it still be considered a leucistic carpet though? or a leucistic hybrid carpet bredl?

pythons of the world volume 1 australia has been out of print for a while now
that said there are 2nd hand copys available from time to time
its an expensive book,i paid £100 ( $150) to have a copy sent from the usa.i felt that was a good price,as at the time on e bay there was a paper back copy for £195 ($292) and a hard back copy for £295 ($442)
amazing book though and the pictures in it are truely stunning

leucistic = leukos means white.leucistic snakes lack nearly all colour and pattern but have either blue or dark pigmented eyes
so imo due to the hypo bredl having a lot of pattern and not a lot of white, they are also a nice orangey colour,so i'm thinking they are not leucys mate
the hypo bredl are a beautifull orange colour, like the one on the book cover
the above is just my humble opinion

Was curious if the hybrid between the carpet and bredl creating a leucistic would be considered a leucistic carpet, you could breed hypo carpet X bredl to create a clutch thats 50% bredlX carpet and 50% bredl X carpet hypos, breed those back to eachother in 3-4 years to create a leucistic bredlXcarpet, or wait 12 months and breed a hypo bredl X carpet to a hypo carpet, the offspring would be 75% carpet 25% bredl but perhaps the 25% would be enough to offset the "killer gene"

Still a lot of Qs on the genetic trait of Hypo bredls not really to sure on it's mode of inheritance.

hypomelanism in carpet pythons is believed to be a recessive mutation
as red ink said theres still a lot of questions

as far as i know the ONLY way found so far to produce a leusistic carpet is jag x jag
it is the homozygous/super form of the jaguar python

Yep.... hypo x hypo breedings have been done here (a lot). Yet no and leusistic oddly enough... norms pop out as well :wacky:

so morelia genetics are even more screwed up than the rest of them?

Not really mate the key to carpet genetics is that most of them are just polygenic traits.... Hypos are naturally occuring as well by the way and there are more than just a few out there. Hypo coastals are often found by peeps herping up north.
There are some proven genetics like albinos, tigers, stripes, JAGS.... the rest of the fancy ones out there are up for debate.

Totally off topic, but you just made me so happy to see someone on a forum using both their and they're correctly in the same sentence. I'm always amazed at how many never figure this out.
And yes, they seem to know a thing or two about carpets. I also talked to Nick on the phone for over an hour regarding carpets and he is a super friendly and chatty guy. I had expressed some interest in getting a carpet from from him. He suggested we talk on the phone, so I called him. However, when we talked on the phone he pretty much didn't talk a word of business, but instead gave me an hour lesson on carpet python captive breeding and natural history. Nice dude.

Nick Mutton? I know that name!
He's breeding some GORGEOUS granites at the moment, they just need a bit more green instead of yellow so I just wish I could cross one with Spot lol

Forget Amazon. Buy direct from Nick ( Inland Reptile (http://inlandreptile.com/) ) or Justin ( Australian Addiction Reptiles (http://www.australianaddiction.com/) ) instead. My signed copy arrived in 2 days after ordering from Justin with a personalized note.

Difference being though, there was only one jag parent.... Plus its a paradox albino as both parents were het albino.... Very interesting! You wanna talk confusing genetics...
There was another paradox leucistic carpet that survived a few months before it passed on. I cannot remember who produced it though... Seems paradox may be the key to viable leucies if you ask me, but then try figuring out the inheritence of that group of genes...

I have a problem calling this a true "leucistic" looks more "hypo" to me.

You're saying this is really just a Jag paradox albino? I'm not really seeing it since it has black eyes.

i've seen a video of the snake your talking about mate
it is a very strange one
imo,it looks more albino than leucy
its more of the orange colour of an albino, than the crisp clean white of a leucy
just gotta love carpet genetics :D:D:D

When I first read it I got to the toilet paper and I was thinking this guy must be nuts--the book is awesome. Then I got to the taking a crap part and it all made sense. It is definitely a must have.
