This is Moo-Goo and Gai-Pan. I have had them for 10 months and I don't know how old they are, but they were full grown when I got them. I can't tell them apart, except one of them always has a bigger appetite than the other. One of them had a sore, which developed a month after I brought them home, but I nursed him/her back to health with Furan-3 baths and Neosporin- no sign of it now. They are nocturnal and only came out this evening because they thought I was going to feed them.

They are quite plump, but always hungry. Sometimes they go for a dip in their big water dish:

They are about 7 inches long from nose to tail tip, I think.

I realized the terrarium glass was quite dirty, after I started clicking away with my camera. That's why some areas look smudged. Water gets sprayed or dumped in there and spots the clear plastic. There are real plants rooted into the soil so I have to water.

They are so cute, it's nice to hear that they seem healthy and happy now :)
what do they eat?

They eat earthworms and crickets. They are big enough to handle nightcrawlers. Its amazing how they can eat a worm as long as they are!

I'm glad you all enjoyed the pictures. I have some other newts as well, 4 fire-bellied newts and a dusky salamander (I already posted pictures of my tiger salamander). These other salamanders are much harder to photograph. The fire-bellieds are so small and the dusky never comes out during the day. He hides under an aquarium pump. Sometimes he disappears for days and I don't even know if he is still alive.

I guess I like newts and salamanders. They are quiet, harmless, shy and are interesting to look at.

They look a lot like emperor newts.

Yes, they are emperor newts. There are different subspecies of emperor newts. One of them, the Shanjing - has a completely orange head. Mine are Kweichow - black heads.
