The strike and "o0oAH!" at 1:03 is priceless :p I also love the hissing sound pine snake do

Definitely a good example of a defensive (not "aggressive") snake. That's one nervous little bugger. Thanks for sharing that

I didn't have the volume up at first but I watched it again and the hissing is awesome! <3
Reminds me of the basalisk[sp?] on Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets :3

Steph: I bought this snake purely for its attitude, I plan to use it to teach people the difference between aggressive and defensive behavior.
I'm actually working with it backwards, if it hisses and strikes, I leave it alone, so it learns that if it wants to be left alone, bite and hiss and puff and rattle the tail. Hopefully he stays like that.

I'm surprised it actually struck. They mostly hiss and coil up then back right off once you pick them up. Great video. Wait till hes 5' long though. The strike might actually hurt then ;)

What a hiss he has! Thankfully his bark is much worse than his bite.

Ha! Great video! I love how snakes move their tails when they are pissed or hunting or whatever. I think it would be an amazing study to do on the correlation between types of tail movement and behaviour. There are many with dogs, now we need one for snakes!

They "wag" their tail cause in the wild there would be leaf/plant matter around to make the rattling noise of a rattler. I think? Also rattlers hold their tail up when being stealthy because they don't want it to drag and rattle. is that what you were talking about? :p

It seems to be a pretty universal thing for snakes of all kinds. Every single snake I have does it from kingsnake to GTP. It also seems to be unconscious sometimes, but I may be wrong. For instance, when my GTP was hunting last night and saw the mouse, his tail (which was high up in the perch) was twitching and moving like crazy, almost like he was excited.

That's the same with Alba, on feeding day sometimes I'll notice her tail wagging :P

Hes going to be tricky to feed, he strikes the F/T all day long but never grabs it, gona probably need to leave it with him.

I wasn't sure how my bulls would eat at first. The female wasted no time at all. The male just looked at it. After nudging his body a few times he struck at it and then latched on. Then again he is the shier of the two. Their hiss can be a little tough to.get used to. Especially since mine spend all their time burrowed and I gotta dig around for em ;-)

mine is a doll, doesn't hiss, strike or nothing. She'll musk every so often but that's about it

Haha, so awesome. I love the attitude of bull and pine snakes. They hiss almost like cobras- it's so cool.
