Is it OK to feed corns proper size rats or is it better to keep them on to mice?
Thanks

I personally feel a rat pup would be better than a hopper mouse for the simple reason that at roughly the same size the snake will not have to digest/ try to digest the fur of the rat, basically making the rat a more complete meal, though the mice are great also, you'll notice when the snake poops a big pile of fur. In my opinion either are a great complete source of nutrition but i'd personally go with rats.
I only feed my animals rats [breeding up some gerbils that are left overs from when I had BPs]
The snakes seem to grow thicker and faster and generally look healthier on rats. [could just be me]
As previously stated rat pups are the same size as mice hoppers, but now fur and the snakes get more "meat".
I find my rats breed easier then mice do, rats will breed in almost any conditions (there are documented cases of them living and breeding in cold [freezer-like] conditions) where as mice seem to need certain temps, etc.
We're feeding 2 of our corns mice til they're big enough to eat rat pups our older corn is on rat pinks

Rats STINK! I personally think the best place for em is the freezer:) . If i were you i would buy them, unless they arent going to be kept inside. Just my opinion, not trying to offend any rat lovers.

No Kyle you are right. Rats stink.i had them as pets a long time ago. two . and just two stank. i couldn't image a breeding colony. if i ever had to i would though. carefresh worked really well in keeping smell down. and everyday or every other day scooping out corners. mice tend to go in corners and it so happened to be th same for rats. my rats anyway.
hmm my rats only stink if I have more than one male around.. right now the only smell from them is a FAINT pine scent from the shavings and a slightly stronger urine smell, I only change mine once a week on garbage night. But they are in a 33 gallon tank so it might be diff in racks and cages..

in my opinion rats dont smell unless you never clean them out!i have two rats and if you clean them out then you shouldnt have a problem. i think mice smell of urine..:) looks like im the only onewho thinks this!

My two oldest corns eat small (full grown) rats every 14 days. They're only a little bigger then large mice, and I dunno, they just FEEL heavier/more meaty.
