I am so stressed out i just got my ball python about a week ago she is a beauty. Ive gone to 4 different pet stores and and honestly all of their advice has been uderly R-tarded or contradicting of the last. All of them including 2 being reptile stores are like hurr durr whats a thermostat, Oh you can turn your infrared off for 12 hours a night even though its her only heat source **** WE DO! Like honestly no duh your trying to turn and burn your pets spending the least amount of money possible on them. Honestly i love my girl but i just want to take good care of her but all this bs has left a bad taste in my mouth and a heavy weight on my shoulders. there are so many retards out there who make it utterly impossible for a beginner to even attempt to learn. I know you guys can be a trusted source that will help without judgment I got this girl off rescue and every store expects me to buy this and the next thing at the drop of a hat and if i dont they make me feel like **** and uncomfortable.

She is 3 years old came with a 20 gallon long(needs bigger asap) one hide one bowl a ballast and a 60 watt house bulb

Im strapped for cash but Since i got her, ive gotten zoo med substrate, another hide for the cool side and a 100 watt infrared recommended to me until i can get her a uth currently i run it 24 hours a day cause like i said earlier its her only heat source but it still fluctuates up and down. One of the pet stores told me to switch back to the 60 watt house bulb during the day for her photo period but i thought that would confuse the **** out of her having a huge temp drop when its daylight.

Seriously all i have to say is help i am super stressed will this work for a bit she seems happy shes eating but i just dont want her to turn on me like the pet store people say she will

I can understand the stress you feel I sometimes feel it too

If you look on the Ball Python section of this site there are TONS of posts which have some really good tips especially when it comes to husbandry. Even if you're strapped for cash there should be some helpful stuff

goodluck!

hey, I have a ball python too, read as much as you can in the ball python section and if you have specific questions about anything don't be afraid to ask.

something I do to help save money is I have stopped lining my BP's tank with barky stuff (not because I wanted to but because no petstore in a 40km radius near me had any) Now I use paper towel, I didn't like the look at first because I have only ever used bark, but this is so much easier to clean and it's easier to see when it gets dirty. Also if this snake is new to you using paper towel would probably be in your best interest as it is easier to see anything that shouldn't be there. best of luck!

ah christ i know exactly what you mean!!!
i went through very similar thing`s
they make youi feel like you have to have every exact thing correct and get all the top of the line equipment.

Truth is look you saved this guy who know`s what could have happend to him if you had no got him so anything from this point on is a bonus.

the infared light you have is alright but may get a little to hot maybe take some temp reading`s, i am currently using a 150 wat in my cabinet as a over all heat source and my cabinet is huge!

i don`t know to much about python`s but i guess as long as the temp doesn`t go below 73 and not above 106 and there is fresh water for him to drink and soak in and you mist the tank you should be good for awhile

bp don`t need any any specific light if it is in a room where there is light in the day dark at night that is fine your 100watt is probly giving a good amount of heat so you are
good most people keep bp`s in small bin`s with barely any light just a heat source and water
