I just posted about my hot carpet python, but on the other end of the spectrum are my two Dumeril's boas. Tanzy (Tanzanite) roams around her cage, happily crawling in pvc pipes and under hides. She acts totally normal, sits in her water when she's going to shed, eats, etc. However -rarely- have i seen her hang out near or above her UTH. It's not too hot...90 degrees, and then I have a piece of wood on one side, and nice thick substrate on the other. When I have seen her on it, she's burrowed herself to it. I'd say 98% of the time though she is COLD. She feels like ice, though I've used the laser temperature gauge to tell she's at least 70 most of the time.
Rusty, half her size (they are in my gallery) does the same thing! Tanzy has eaten, and grown since we've gotten her, however Rusty has not. He's still looking healthy, and is active...but at least he makes more sense being cold since he hasn't wanted to eat.
Either way, both snakes enjoy being cold. When i need to pick them up or anything they make ME cold, holding them! Any one else's dums like being cold?
Tanzy's peeking out of a pipe right now, with her tail sticking out the other end. I put those in there a week ago and she hasn't stopped crawling in and out of them, she loves'em *lol*
My bolivan boa, the hognoses, and the balls all spend equal time heating up or cooling down.

90 may be a tad too hot for her. I'd try dropping that by 3-4 degrees and see if she's more prone to warming-up a bit. 86 degrees is plenty for a Dumeril's.
Some snakes are just odd and like the cold. I had a big Retic that just *loved* to pile herself up against the coldest window she could find that had a sill big enough to support her size) and they usually know what they're doing. Just keep an eye on it so that it doesn't start wheezing.
Other snakes will tend to cool themselves between meals to help slow the digestive system until more food comes along. It's also about that time of year when a lot of snakes instinctively seek cooler temperatures for a few weeks before mating season rolls around.

Mine do it too. As a matter of fact, right now both are on their cool side and both are at 75 temp.

my BRB is on the cold side most of the time too, every couple of weeks he'll spend a few days on the warm side, then its right back over.

our little bolivina boa will temp regulate fairly freqently though. These there are my only boas. hognses like to be back and forth, and most of the time the balls are 50/50...but in truth in the past couple weeks, they seem to like to hang out more on the warm end. Understandable, it's freezing! Our house has terrible weather stripping. i've been trying various things to try to keep the ambian temp normal for them.

Would yall recommend a Dumeril over a red tail?
see I'm trading my atb for a different snake because he is too agressive and my faimly wants me to get something different and I have a lot of people that have contacted me about trading or adopting but only 2 have stood out to me.
One lady is experienced with aggressive snakes and large snakes and asked me to wait a week before trading or selling him and she will help me find a red tail but it isn't certain. However the lady with the dumeril is experienced as well and it's certain.
Any advice or suggestions?
