There's a gorgeous GTP for 750$ on Signalherp.com that I can't stop staring at.
Scales and Tails is sending an import in today and I'm close enough to their Toronto store that I could pick up from there, so there would only be an addition 15$ fee. (My share of shipping from SH to ST)
But I just splurged 400 dollars on new equipment for my snake room through hagen order at order (yipee for avoiding retail prices eh?) as a christmas present to myself....x_x'''

Someone talk me out of it?

You're no help at all!
> _ <!!!
:P No I don't already have one. Have wanted one ever since discovering the whole world of snake keeping.
My worry is how 'delicate' they are. That, and the money. But I haven't seen a gtp for sale from an establish breeder (aka not someone random on kijiji or cl) that I wouldn't be paying huge bucks with shipping and handling for ontop of actual price.

I have until 8pm est to make my mind up. I don't think I will, I can't justify a months rent on another feeding mouth. Especially when I still have to think about college.

I say go for it. They aren't that hard to care for as long as you put them into a proper home. I mist maybe once a week and his humidity stays spot on. He drinks from his water bowl so I don't need to mist daily as some people do. Mine is a jerk but I still love watching him coil and move around. It's nothing like any other snake.

Here, I'll help:

DON'T BUY IT!

You need the money for...
College
Food
Rent
Food for the snakes you have already
Xmas gifts
General savings
Future travel plans

When you're more financially stable you'll be more able to afford it without regrets ;)

Ohhh I have personally seen some of gtp for sale at tails and scales and some of their hold back... My lord are they amazing... That being said the responsible thing to do is hold of Nelson at tails and scales is the sole distributer of signals gtps in canada I believe and they make a few orders every year there will always be another time

Kayla90
11-25-11, 04:02 PM
.. Well you could always make it a late Christmas present to yourself to be responsible :P .. Or Early (next year).. depending on how you look at it :P

I apologies in advance if I missed someone saying something like this already so here goes. I'm suprized no one has said anything. IMPORT IE WILDCAUGHT??!! for $750?!! Is it that hard to get GTP's in Canada? Are there no breeders in Canada with captive bred babies with no parasites that will eat f/t?? I know GTP's can definately be spendy but jesus for a wild caught?? I have my own opinion about Scales&Fails that I can discuss in private. For that much money what is the incentive for a wild caught? What about the chances of disease or parasites and exposure to your present collection? I am excited for anyone to get a new pet but red flags are scary, everything may work out but IMO the chances for that are slime with a delicate animal like that.

It's a pretty baby, but $750 is wayyy too high of a price....for even a CBB! And I would not ever buy a wildcaught GTP- they are just too fragile. Even CBB ones can be difficult to keep healthy, as they are very susceptible to bad sheds, respiratory infections and dehydration. At the reptile shows near me, one can buy a quality, red neonate CBB GTP for $300-400. Signal Herpetoculture does produce some nice GTPs, even some absolutely stunning animals, but I would not pay $750 for a baby, even one of theirs.

Relax brother, the above mentioned gtp is from signal herps, not a wild caught and scale and tail is the importer. We only have several breeder of chondro in the whole counrty, many of them not quite interesting to post anything at open forums. The cost of breeding snakes is also double than States. As such to pay over seven hundred for a cb gtp is not a new story.

II realized it was about two snakes. I was trying to give an opinion and try to dis wade(sp) buying the imported one from scales. Why would it cost double to "breed" snakes? Do you mean snakes them selves are more pricey in Canada because they are more regulated and rarer?

shaunyboy
11-25-11, 09:20 PM
i'm NOT saying the gtp we're talking about in this thread is a wild caught

re wild caught gtp's

you would have to smuggle a wild caught gtp, because as far as i know NO country allows the export of wild caught gtp's

indonesia allows the export of, F1 captive bred gtp's

registered breeders in indonesia are allowed to take wild gtp's from their natural habitat and breed them

these hatchlings are F1 and captive bred from wild caught

these hatchlings are ok for and legal for export

the above is what i have read on respected forums,i have NOT done any proper research on the subject myself,so please feel free to correct me if i have got something wrong

i know of a reptile shop in london that sells imported indonesian F1 gtp's and F1 boelen's pythons, the boelens are gorgeous

cheers shaun

Yes all reptile related stuff we can purchase here are more expensive than the State. Let say a Radiant heat panel, you can buy one for sixty bucks and I have to pay $98 plus shipping and HST from our local supplier, I will not comment about the price I have to pay here because business man need income. The rat food I pay for my asf is about $50 bucks for 50 lbs, the same food that I saw in the State is less than $15... you will have to live here and find out.

Yeah we get railed on everything here. But to say it cost double??? Maybe 30% more with 50% being Max. We just don't have the market here is the real issue. The bigger companies can't move enough product it seems.

Yep, that is cheap!! Here, 100 supers are around $20, 100 crix are $10, 250 waxs are $18 and roaches are illegal.
