Female took 3 mediums this week, male again refused.

Last pic is for size reference, he rarely eats, she always does.
They are both in the SAME sized tub.

You should take the pic from a bit more of a distance to show the size difference better. Nice looking snakes though.

they are looking good and the female it getting big, why you feeding her so many meds and not just moving her to large?

Male is about 3 feet (was bigger the her a month ago) female is almost 6.
They are both platinum het albinos. (taking photos is hard right now because I'm reorganizing the room. Next sunny day I'll take photos for you guys.

I think at least one of those was meant for the male and seeing as he refused Stephan just feed it off to the female.

This, and I'm trying to burn through my mediums so I can start feeding rabbits, rabbits are half the price of rats by weight

In the first few pics it looks like there's a lot of retained shed...?

She has no issues eating while in shed so what happens is, you feed her when shes blue and her shed rips apart all over because it can't stretch.

She looks gorgeous man, can't wait to see her in person. Shame about him though, want me to take him off your hands?

stephanbakir
11-18-11, 11:09 AM
No thanks :P Even if he is small, hes got great genetics and you can still breed a 4 foot male with a 15+ foot female :P I've never witnessed it but a few really good friends have.

males tend to go off eating leading up to and during breeding season

you think thats why he's off his food mate ?

I do believe thats why hes off feeding. The only thing he wants to eat are mice, and I refuse to feed him mice. I'm gona try him on rabbits next month if hes still off food, I can get rabbits dirt cheap now.

lady_bug87
11-18-11, 12:47 PM
maybe he just wants a little... cloaca like Shaun said

(ok that was a little uncouth)

you could always try scenting a rabbit with mouse blood and guts, not a pleasant task but it works most of the time mate

how old are they? '10s?yeh, early 10s, they were fed fuzzy/small mice every other week from birth when you should normally feed a HATCHLING fuzzy/small RATS from birth. Might be introducing him to some cloaca if this keeps up.

I have no issues with that, I come from a hunting family, so cleaning and gutting is easy. (Ive got a pic of me at 8 years old plucking a goose :P)

some people... you had mentioned they were maintenance fed before. Who did they come from?

stephanbakir
11-18-11, 05:13 PM
Prefer not give his name, he works for the Toronto zoo and the rest of his stuff is in great condition, he just doesn't know his snakes.

millertime89
11-18-11, 07:21 PM
fair enough, wasn't sure if it was a breeder or what.

stephanbakir
11-18-11, 08:12 PM
Hes a collector of reptiles, caiman, and lizards for the most part, no snakes.

Could ya rub some of that luck on me?? I'd like to stumble upon some snakes too

stephanbakir
11-18-11, 08:41 PM
Took me 2 years to find this pair lol, they are currently the only snakes I own. I'm just going to wait patiently to find the right animals.

11-18-11, 08:44 PM
hopefully your male gets beefy soon

stephanbakir
11-18-11, 08:54 PM
Gona try feeding him tonight. Everything else ate yesterday.

millertime89
11-18-11, 08:58 PM
if you do offer him some cloaca, what are you gonna throw his way?

stephanbakir
11-18-11, 09:14 PM
I've got a selayer female and a lavender tiger in mind. Both are 2007s and stunning. (they belong to a friend) Problem is, I wouldn't be in this country to see the eggs hatch, so I'll probably pass on the project.

millertime89
11-20-11, 09:13 PM
sad face :( can't say I blame ya though. I would go for that Lav Tiger personally.

millertime89

that's good, hopefully it starts a trend.

stephanbakir
11-21-11, 01:13 AM
Thats what I thought 2 weeks ago, when he ate. then he took 2 weeks off again lol.

millertime89
11-21-11, 01:22 AM
maybe that'll be the trend, every 3 weeks he'll decide to eat.

stephanbakir
11-21-11, 01:24 AM
God I hope not, I didn't pay for a 3-4 foot adult male retic :P

millertime89
11-21-11, 01:55 AM
lol, well if that's the case... my offer still stands :D

lady_bug87
11-21-11, 08:06 AM
he'll come around eventually and I would LOVE a 3-4ft retic... haha

stephanbakir
11-21-11, 08:59 AM
A 3-4 foot male breeder mainland is risky, you never know how the female will kill him, biting or squashing.

lady_bug87
11-21-11, 01:26 PM
i wouldn't breed him I would just love him.

millertime89
11-21-11, 01:36 PM
for what he is, he needs to be bred. I too would be worried about him getting killed by the female.

stephanbakir
11-21-11, 01:48 PM
Again, female took 3, male took nada. (he took a small yesterday though)ww-1bC6Qggg&list

Thats the girl, boy refused so I have no pics of him(he goes 2 weeks on, 2 off lately). Female took 3 rats, I'll take a pic of her belly once it settles in about an hour, its pretty impressive right now.
