Just got a white lipped tree frog from a guy on craigslist. I instantly noticed a bulge on its leg and am hoping its just a cyst or a benign tumor. The guy told me its only 8 months old. I got him for $10 so not a bad rehoming fee at all and even if its not going to make it long I wanted to give it a good home. If it is a parasite though I'm not putting it in with my other white lips. BTW I won't be taking it to a vet and paying $80. I was thinking depending on what I learn online after a few weeks if its still there possibly trying to stick it with a needle and see what comes out. Scary thought yes but its just an idea.

The bulge doesn't seem to hinder its movement at all and it feels soft and squishy between the skin and the muscle.

looks like a cyst, there's some discoloration there. I'm no vet by any means but that's my .02

I don't know anything about amphibians but I hope it turns out to be benign! :) good luck

If you watch very closely does it move. It could take awhile so watch for 5 minutes or so.

Next day updates, he has eaten and pooed and seems healthy. I put a led flash light on the leg and watched it for a few minutes and I didn't see anything moving under the skin or anything.

So I noticed the bump was getting bigger and had some what looked like localized skin shed hanging off it. I cleared that off with a que tip gently and noticed the part sticking out the most was dark almost clear. I gently pushed on the whole mass and it started to seep from the darker i guess thinner spot so I worked it all out it was all mostly clear with a little twards the end that had a white haze to it but not milky. Ick.... so was that a cyst or some wierd water retention? It didn't smell but felt sticky, ick...

OOh ok that makes sense. I was looking at it and it looked the same so I was wondering why. Anyway! Thanks for clearing that up. Can we see what it looks like now?

Hope that by getting it to pop or whatever it goes away now.

I think the only way for you to know what it was is to do a taste test.

Do one and lets us know

nom nom nom. I do that with liquids on the floor of my garage. Oil is nasty, but nothing like power steering and brake fluid, coolant is sweet, and gas evaporates.

I kinda milked it again today and a white thing started to pop out and just as it came out the frog jumped on the bathroom mirror. Its out but i didn't get a good look at it i think it was just some slightly stiff puss and not a worm. I would have told you how it tasted had I found it. There was just a little blood that followed so I sanitized his enclosure and gave him new bedding and left him alone to heal.

Anyone know what to use for an open wound on a frog?

I don't know for a frog, but usually polysporn works well.
