So I was wondering where you guys buy your cages here in Canada? I'm looking to get out of using glass because of constant humidity issues, and I'm trying to find cages higher than the standard 12 & 18 inches. I know of Powerhouse Displays but there must be others right? I just want something that will hold up, and something with a bit of height seeing as my Boa is constantly climbing or chilling out on his perch. Thx.

Where in Canada are you? If your close to Ottawa I could easily build you an enclosure of any size. Melamine with some sliding glass doors work well.

I spoke to someone at Boaphile earlier 2day and they do ship to Canada, right to your door for 70 -80 bucks a box. I inquired about a 6 foot cage and was told there would be 2 boxes, so it won't be cheap if I went that route. I'm sure shipping would be less of a hit if I bought close to home.

Don't forget the additional hundreds of dollars for duty and brokerage fees...

no, if you've ever been to the icanhazcheezburger.com site, its a recuring theme, white cats are ceiling cat and black are basement cat. Its a joke about good/evil, god/devil, white/black. Their names are Casper (white) and Dexter (black)

I get my cages from rickys reptile enclosures. I use them for my ball pythons, colubrids and my boas. For the bigger guys, like the surinames and brb I get his 3- piece enclosures but have the dividers taken out so they're big enough.
Theyre one full piece of acryllic so they keep heat and humidity in like no other enclosure I've ever used. They're also really expensive but I think they're worth it.
Rickysreptileenclosures.com
They also custom make whatever you want so If u want something for aboreal snakes or different measurements that's what's listed they'll do whatever.

...and lack many fundamental features necessary for the proper husbandry of ball pythons. I have no doubt that Ricky will eventually get it right, but his line right now is terribly lacking and TERRIBLY expensive.

I'm with mikee on this one, the prices are insane, the hight/width ratio is a waste.

I just know from experience how my snakes do in them and I've never once assisted with a shed or had to mess with temps or humidiy to get things operating correctly. They work amazing with my snakes and they're pricey but I bought a bunch of juvenile enclosure and some of the 3-piece ones with dividers a while ago before they increased in price. The sizing on the 3 piece without dividers works great for my boas and I have some 2 yr old balls I'm the 3 piece with dividers and they've got ample room in there.
I'm with you on the current pricing now though - he recenty jacked them up several hundreds dollars an enclosure, which is just nuts considering they were already really pricey. But I love them all the same and I've tried many different enclosures from monster cages, boaphile, cornels world and none rival rickys when it comes to quality and keeping humidity and heat in. Just from my own experience.

never having to assist with a shed or mess around much with temps and humidity can be attributed more to you as the keeper than those enclosures.

Does it really need to be from canada?

I just got a cage specialized for arboreals from boaphile (i plan to put a carpet in there and i know you like carpets).

I've also had a good experience with herpcages.com

Both open from the front, made from materials which hold humidity, and could come with no top screen.

I want them form Canada so I don't get nailed with the shipping. From Boaphile I'll have to pay $140-160 for shipping, and that seems like ALOT !!:unhappy:

Unfortunately I'm mentally challenged when it comes to carpentry or even creative enough to know what I'd want/need when it comes to a custom cage, but give me a few hours with a pen and some paper and I'll write something that's thought provoking and powerful. I'm also short on friends that would know what to do with power tools and such.

I don't have any experience with these myself but I know a few people have used the PVC enclosures from allreptiles.com. From what I hear they're similar to boaphile's cages. They don't have prices listed online, but This is a price I was emailed from them a couple months ago when I was inquiring about them. Like I said though, I have no experience with them but maybe somewhere here does.
24"x24"x12" **** $152.99
36"x24"x12" **** $215.99
48"x24"x12" **** $233.99

The PVC is tempting but so expensive especially for the big tanks... I would need at least 2 more of the 4th x 2 ft and I meed a bigger one for my rtb

I was at allreptile a week ago and had a look at the pvc enclosures. They seemed "ok" at best. Just my opinion but considering you'll have it a while I would look at the ones they have their own snakes in. Or pvc cages that are a few years old. The black box part of the viv doesn't age but the one large boa there was pushing on the corner of the door and moving it quite a bit. The door latches are a bit mickey mouse as well. BUT they were on sale. I honnestly think the homemade vivs that people have made a diy for are just as good at half the cost. I will be building my next viv and I am not a carpenter. Just my $.02

I agree with other posters as well that making your own is a great cost effective way to get what you want - unfortunately for carpentry ******** people like me it's not an option.
Vision cages are supposed to be amazing too from what I hear but that's another issue for Canadians. The cost of shipping is often more than the cost of the cage.

I've built my own wood enclosures, and have had and am getting more enclosure's built by Greg West (aka Cornelsworld (http://www.cornelsworld.com/) mentioned earlier). He builds custom racks and caging in various materials and does attend some of shows out east.

you really dont need any skills to build a vivarium. dont sell yourself short before you have given it a shot. home depot will do all your cutting for $1 a cut, maybe cost ya $10 then you just drill a smaller hole than your screw so your wood dont slit on you, i mark all my holes prior to assembly, wink wink. line up the edges, i do it by eye, but less confident person could just use a square. now your cage is put together, add glue to your plastic glass sliders, clamp in place, once again lining up the edges with your eyes, now your have a complete cage for cheep. i would hate to see anyone not build one if they wanted just because they dont realize how easy it really is. sure a skilled person could make a furniture style show peice viv with panels and bells and whistles but You can can certainly build the ones on the site posted. :)
