Just thought I would show everyone our last photo shoot. When I get her a month ago she was only 7 inches long and now she is a little over 8 inches as you can see in the pic. Enjoy!

Adorable! I'd love to own a hoggie one day... How do you find feeding them? I heard they are difficult eaters?

Yea, she probably is.

The easterns are difficult to feed, but as long as you get a western that's already eating unscented mice, they are great feeders.

my girl hoggie ate 10 times, then stopped for about two months, then ate once, then stoped again for a few weeks, and just ate again. I think she's about ten inches or so? I actually haven't checked. She's not thin...she's a nice healthy thick thing *lol*
I got a male baby about a month or so ago and he still hasn't eaten, but he is way small, and i think it's still kind of afraid of all the smells in my house. I can hold him and he's fine, so maybe he's just not hungry. I think the petstore said they'd only fed him like 4 times since he'd been born.

Okay, anyway, your hog is a CUTIE, but then again, i haven't seen one i haven't liked!!!! : )

Bahaha I don't think I've seen any kind of snake that I haven't liked.. XD It's just impossible not to love them all when they look so freaking adorable and awesome.. I truly do not understand how someone could look at them and find them horrifying or disgusting.. They are truly a magnificent animal!

You need to see it from others eyes. You live with Stephan and he horrifies me. Bahahaha :p J/k

I agree its hard to understand where/how they feel the way they do but the news does not help. They only show the bad/insane sides of the animal.

The news only shows the bad sides of everything. Politicians, athletes, musicians, you name it.

Bahahah Stephan scary?? Nooooo... I don't see it at all.. He's just a giant little kid lmao..

Yea but seriously.. how could you possibly look a snake in the face and think it evil?? How could you possibly look ANY animal in the face an find it evil? Despite how deadly a lot of snakes can be, there is still something just so innocent about them.. they way they look at you, the way they watch you and pay attention to everything...
Now humans, I look at humans and they scare me.. they have so much room for evil the potential to be so cruel and it saddens me that most of the time it's animals they choose to use it on..

soooo, i loved the pictures you posted and decided to do some research incase I can convince my parents that a hognose would be a good investment :P

I read/heard something that said that there have been some scientific studies to support that they might have a mild venom, not enough to hurt a human but if you're bit it could get swollen and unpleasant.. just wondering if you've ever been bit and experienced this or have an opinion?

they do, they're rear fanged, their saliva is considered toxic to prey.

For a human to be envenomated the hoggy would need to have a damn good chew on you - my research shows that the reaction to the venom is minimal unless you have an allergic reaction

that's very interesting. my luck though i would have an allergic reaction :P

As Rob said it only reacts if you're allergic.

It will have some effect, whether your allergic or not i believe. It just doesnt cause anything too bad unless your allergic...

The fangs also point backwards, so you'd really have to get your finger way back there to get the venom ;) Like it's been said before, you'd really have to get chewed on to get the venom into your skin. This is why hoggies are sold in the mainstream pet trade and can be handled with bare hands, and not alongside rattlers and cobras. They make wonderful pets and are usually not bite-y. :)

Unless you get allot of allergic reactions to stuff, all it would pretty much cause is selling and itching. Most hognose bite are "Dry", the only way to get envenomate is to let it chew on you. The longer you let it chew, the more venom they work into the bite and the worse the reaction. Their fangs are actually just enlarged teeth with grooves in them to channel the venom or saliva into the wound.

that's actually really neat (and i'm sorry i didn't mean to hijack this thread) I didn't realize that. they are so darn cute, a hoggie has been added to my xmas wish list (in case you guys were wondering what to get me :P )

ahah being allergic to a hognose bite really wouldn't surprise me, the past two years i've apparently become allergic to everything

Just don't let one chew on you and you should be fine.

Well she has finally settle in to her cage really good now. She was staying buried in her aspen and now for the last week she has been cruising around he cage and even climbing on her tree. If she's not already out, she comes out when she here's me in the room.
