Ok so I just got this free 29 gal high tank. I had to go out last night to buy a top for it. So Today I just started monitoring temps and humidity. temps are good around 74 on the cool side 85 on the hot side, the problem is my humidity is in the high seventy's even with the lamp, It just snowed here and its cold so I thought The humidity would be low any ideas Oh by the way I'll post pics later today on this thread

What kind of sub-straight do you have in the tank?
If you are using a wood based sub-straight maybe switch to paper towels until the humidity in the house settles down.

I have it on paper towels all ready. Right now its at around 78 percent humidity. Maybe If I put a higher watt bulb in for the day that would help

I'm confused. Are you trying to lower or raise the humidity?

If you do a higher watt bulb you are going to mess your temps up. If the house is to humid you need a dehumidifier.
Was there a question in your post?

yeah it was unclear but I tried to ask the question how to lower the humidity in the new tank by the way her last enclosure was a tub and the humidity was fine around 55 to sixty but it got to small

Is your hygrometer working right? I'd find it strange to think that your house could be causing 78% humidity... I'd turn off the light you have on above the cage and use only a UTH. That might help lower the humidity some

What I do is Have the light on in the day. Then at night I turn on the UTH. Its a brand new hygrometer. Thanks:)

Is it an analog hygrometer?
Simple salt test will tell you if its accurate or not.

you've got that backwards, the light bulb will dry it out.

You can look it up on youtube if my explanation doesnt make sense.
You take a normal bottle cap from a water or coke bottle, fill 3/4 with table salt. Put water in the bottle cap, but only enough to make the salt pasty. You dont want any extra water on top of the salt. If there is excess water on top, you can use a paper towel to soak it up until all you see is pasty salt.
Then take a ziplock bag or a tupperware (or airtight) container, and put both your analog hygrometer inside, as well as the bottle cap with pasty salt. Wait 8-24 hours. It should read 75%.
If theres a dial at the back, you can adjust it. But IMO if it doesnt read 75 (or at least close to it) then I would try and get a digital one. Accurites are only $15 and give you two temperature readings and a humidity reading.
