View Full Version : Alba the Albino

At the Montreal Expo I found the cutest little albino which I plan to breed once she's of age. I was trying to think of a name and for some reason the only one that would come to mind was Alba, so I named her Alba :P
The pictures I have aren't exactly the best, I'll have to wait for steph to get home so he can help me adjust the camera... And by all means it's currently WAAAY to cold outside for some natural lighting shots.. so for now these will have to do :D
I've had her exactly a week, she has yet to eat but I will be trying later tonight, cross your fingers everyone..

It is a bit high, even for Canadian pricing, I believe. You can get a female bumblebee for that same price from my favorite breeder in Toronto, very reputable guys: Bumble Bee | The Urban Python (http://www.theurbanpython.com/sale/bumble-bee-3)
Not sure on their pricing for albinos, but I imagine it would be considerably less if their bumblebees are only $500 each, male OR female.
Beautiful girl though Kayla, keep the pics coming :)

Not necessarily true. An albino is recessive and a bumblebee is a co-dom/dom animal. They work differently and recessives tend to hold their prices longer so yes $500 is pretty average for a female albino.
Also, reputable, not anymore...

Yes, my mistake, I asked around about that and was told just what you said. I shouldn't have assumed that the albino BP morph was comparable to the market value of albino boas - I'm not a python girl, so I have no idea.
But not reputable anymore? I strongly disagree, as would many others. I hope you can provide something factual to back up that statement...

I take it by your lack of response that you can provide no supportive "evidence" to your defamatory statement. I'm actually studying internet law, social media and defamation right now at my firm, and I am not in any way trying to be rude, or argue, but defamation is very serious, especially when it can impact someone's livelihood by tarnishing their good name. Urban Reptile has a very good name, I can vouch for them myself after 4 (soon to be 5) beautiful boas from them, all in perfect health, all exactly what they were marked as (morphs and sexes), perfect sheds, no mites, not a scratch/kink, never missed a meal, etc. And I definitely asked around about them and did my research before my first purchase. Since then, I have only heard good things about them, and after many conversation with the owner and staff, my high opinion & respect for Urban Reptile has only grown.
Yes, I am defending them - but I welcome you, or anyone else to give me a reason not to. Factual statements are not defamatory.

Thank you for telling me that - then I guess we will wait and see what he says when he comes back. Again, not looking to "start something" just standing up for a breeder I trust and I don't want to see a good name trashed without good reason.
I can't deny the possibility that someone had a bad experience with them, of course, that would be ignorant. So, I will patiently await an answer.

Shane's awesome, I've bought 2 boas from him so far - real nice guy to deal with, and I love how willing he is to provide very in-depth and knowledgeable answers to questions on genetics, opinions, etc. - what I mean is he'll give you the "time of day" instead of just brushing you off once the sale is over. Actually, the very first boa I ever bought was from him, a Lipstick Sunglow (poss super) and he's doing great, only looking better with age. The second one I'll be picking up at the Ajax show this Sunday, actually - so excited! :)

When we were at the Expo in Montreal I took a very close look at what they had, sadly they didn't have anything I wanted at the time that I could afford, but I must agree with Kat. I've seen all her Boa's, as well as the animals they bring to Expo's and I have to say that they have some very nice looking animals.. When the time comes they are definitely going to be some of the first people I look to buy some of my future purchases from..

First up, snakes crossing borders. There isn't a point. It takes time and a lot of paperwork to just ship a simple albino ball across the lines. Might as well just buy an adult male or baby female for the same price.

First of all, I know what defamation is and I also know you couldn't get me for my opinion on that company. Also it's libel when it's written. NOT defamation or slander.
Second of all, if you did "research" on your oh so favourite breeders you'll see they don't have a reputation anymore. I'll post links.
Toffee not a Banana...Mistaken Identity Opps! - Reptile Forum - Bush-League Breeders Club (http://www.reptileradio.net/reptileradio/showthread.php?t=33245)
To sum it up, what they did was bring in a mutation from the wild and breed it. Sell the hets for thousands of dollars and THEN when someone ended up proving that these 10's of thousand of dollar snakes (the toffee ball) was compatible with the "lowly" albino ball making crosses known as "toffino's" they told them to keep it quiet so the public wouldn't find out. The public did and now they've destroyed their reputation. Somehow you think this is "okay" to consider them reputable.
Lastly, I didn't respond sooner as I didn't check this thread until now.

We are just having fun with the idea.. Yes society has made it extremely difficult to do anything easily anymore.. We all get that point! Doesn't mean we can't think about it.. and who knows by the time they are breeding age I could be living in the States.. soooooo.
And also... that was posted a really long time ago.. you didn't really have to bring it up.. you could have pm'd Kat herself and brought it all back up again.. All I'm saying is.. this is a thread about Alba.. and while I don't mind random talks I'd really like to keep arguing out of it..
Now on the other hand Kat doesn't really come on SsnakesS.. or even facebook for that matter, anymore.. so again.. you really didn't have to bring it up.. We all have our own personal preferences .. and people make mistakes, that doesn't mean the majority of their stuff isn't still nice.

Why would I PM someone instead of letting everyone see the facts? That's all I did. I'm not arguing I'm stating facts that I was asked to procure, if she comes here or not. I don't want to be shown as someone who doesn't back up their statements.

Thanks for the update, I was waiting to hear your response Aaron. Sorry Kayla if we are disrupting your thread. I have a few more questions, if Aaron wouldn't mind PM'ing me the answers..
When did it happen that they sold the hets toffees as het bananas? I met Terry and Greg from Royal Python Ranch and saw their Banana, and apparently only 3 other breeders in Canada have the morph. When I first got into ball pythons, I was told to check out Urban Python, and I remember in Sep 2011 they already had the Het toffee's for sale, at 5,500 for a female and 4,500 for a male.
How much were the Het Banana's going for? And was it ever resolved? (Sorry if this is answered all in your link, I am off to work so thought I'd ask anyways)
Also Kayla, she's a beauty :D And I think your melamine rack looks awesome!!

I personally have enjoyed this thread. It also reinforces my serious dislike for most rp morphs (that's cause I am a little slow or something)

I honestly can't give you the answers on those dates. I never really followed the toffee or banana mutation before that thread so I couldn't give you any more information dude. Sorry.

First up, snakes crossing borders. There isn't a point. It takes time and a lot of paperwork to just ship a simple albino ball across the lines.
I wasn't thinking shipping, Aaron. I know that driving plants across the border is not a problem & no paper work is needed (not talking huge shipments, just if you were taking a few over in your car). Don't know if the same standards apply to herps. Course the fact that the two live so far apart would be a big issue. (Wasn't considering the fact that Alessia is in FL when I first mentioned it.)

no matter which way you cross you still need paperwork for CITES animals. It would defeat the purpose of having these regulations if you could just drive them across borders.
My experience with Urban Reptiles was unprofessional at the least. Extremely unhappy with the customer service and product.
