There seems to be some confusion on these terms and this has been bugging me for quite some time. Some people call rat pinkies "pups", then as they get older they're fuzzies and then after that they are weaned. IMO and based on info provided by rodentpro and other larger suppliers, rats are not pups until they have reached 14 days of age. They generally have full fur and weigh at least 20g. Re these 2 links from rodentpro.com...

We are rat suppliers ourselves and we base all of our measurements and terms on rodentpro as our standard.
My question is this: If you call rat pinkies pups, what do you call them when they're at least 14 days old , have full fur but not weaned yet?

So is this just American terminology vs that of the UK?
I just want to avoid confusion when people are talking rats and their stages of development.

Just a quick question to Exwizard, since you breed rats and mice for morphs I'm hoping that you can answer this, my cousin recently acquired a collection of breeding mice from his uncle who passed away, they are pure black with white bellies and bow ties on their necks, any idea of the morph name?

Ive never heard of this one. I dont know. Our mice range from albinos to brown, black, brindle and anywhere in between. We also have long hairs and cow spotted ones as well. It'll be pretty cool to see one of these. :)

that is why i posted a uk chart,we have slightly different termonolgy over here
at least with both charts on display we know what each other is talking about
for example over here we dont have the extra or double, triple extra large etc terminology over here
after large weaner rats it goes.....
small rat
medium rat
large rat
jumbo rat
i had no intention of trying to make anything america v's the uk
i was only trying to show that you and i use different ways in which we group our prey items in the countrys we live in
cheers shaun

yeah I was noticing that. Our weaners start at 30g and go to 44g, our smalls start at 45g and go to 84g and our mediums start at 85g and go to 174g.
Your weaners are in 4 sizes and range between our weaners and smalls. Your smalls are our mediums. This is very useful when understanding each other. Thank you.

This is why i like being able to go into the shop and pick the rats i want by hand! DOnt have to worry about names etc.
The shop i goto has jumbo mice that i feed to my adult corn - the one time i went to a different store and asked for jumbo mice the one they gave me was barely bigger than my thumb!

I know this. My breeder sell rats like this. When we go to get rats we're not allowed to pick them because he sell them as pets. They're call Tuxedo's or at least that's what Paul calls them. They sell for more than your regular rats.

I do, but I'm pretty far away!! LOL
I love breeding my own, then I don't have to go by other's sizes, I just look at thier food supply and see what's needed and breed to that size! VIOLA!!
