I have heard mixed ideas on the topic of lighting and heating with corns. I use standard bulbs for heating and lighting, but I've also heard they really don't need any heat unless its colder in your herp room. Your thoughts? I'd love to hear them.

I just keep the reptile room at a steady 80-85 all the time. Never had problems.

Okay. My rooms warm enough, I just have the lights on for lighting really.

I use a UTH but only because my house gets fairly chilly on a normal basis.

I use under tank heaters (UTH) for my snakes because I don't have enough snakes to justify keeping a whole room at 85F lol

I'm same with Alessia, my mom never has the heat on.
I don't have any heat on my corns cause with the heat pads on the ball pythons and the heat lamps on the lizards and turtles, it stays the perfect temp.

Aleissa, from what I know ball python need added heat? I use the same light on my corns that I do with my balls. Helps keep the humidity up.

I have a small UTH plus a 100 watt light on top. daytime hot spot temp stays around 84-88, cool end 75-80. humidity stays around 60%. I have a clay saucer of water right over the UTH in addition to water bowls on the cool side. The water over the UTH helps keep the humidity up. It was barely 50% before I added that.

I use CHE for all my snakes but the temps in the UK wouldnt make it feasible to do otherwise!! We have had 2 days this year where the CHE turned itself off totally because the ambient temp rose enough for the thermostat to switch it off :(

our winters can be pretty chilly so we use UTH's and heat cords. This summer was HOT!! and the UTH's were turned off pretty much all the time.

Our winters get chilly, But I still keep that reptile room so hot I wear nothing but shorts when I'm in there for extended periods of time.
For me it's a bit cheaper than heating walls of cages.

I could see that for as many snakes you have!! I only have 5 ATM (although I may get a normal BP in the next few weeks).
My snakes are in my bedroom (3 of them) and the 2 rescues are in quarantine in the bathroom.

Corn snakes really don't need any added humidity. My corn only has added humidity during shed

Kinda depends where you live and what the ambient humidity is - our ambient is 50% so we dont need to add anything at all.

Oh sorry I never saw you asked me this! I only use a heat mat for my ball pythons. It gives them the heat gradient they need perfectly, and I keep my humidity up by using reptibark as substrate and misting. No added heat needed. They are happy and give me perfect sheds every time :)

I think, may be wrong tho :), that his point was that BP's need a 91f hotspot and corns only need 86f.

My hot spot is Around 93 for my bp ans 85 for my corn. I think this is true because corns range is from southern new jersey to the tip of florida:D
