What would you like to know?
We keep many bloods and short tails,
we keep them at 81 degs, room temp only, when they are babies to sub adults we keep them on paper and as adults on mulch.
The blacks by far are really laid back and easy going.
they only go to the bathroom every few months so do not get alarmed by them not going,Mine go about every 4-6 months and thats it..
If you have any more questions please contact me I will help with any of them..

I've been giving a ton of observations on Bloods lately also. You can find it in the Python curtus section of the forum. There's some interesting reading there.

Ask away. We got quite a few Blood lover on here now we'll get you the answer you need.

I do have a question for you. Are you going to be keeping it in a tote? I am with Todd on this the only way to keep them is in totes or tubs. Helps keep them from getting as stressed out, because they can see out as good. Make them feel more secure. Also you'll want to keep handling to a minim for the first couple months. You want to let them settle in, so they feel secure and safe. Baby can be very touch and stress so very easy. Once they are eating regular and settle in then you can start working on handling them in short secession.

Very sound advice if you ask me :)

I'm at work and on my phone, so I have to keep it short, but I planned on keeping it in a 20 long, with plexi glass top, and blacked out sides and back... with hides and paper towel sub strate.... I may keep in tote, but don't really want to unless needed, then o will.... also I heard on acare sheet to handle as Mich as possible as babies?

This is why I came here last is to get all the RIGHT advice. lol.

Handling as much as possible as a baby? doesn't sound like good advice at all at any stage of a blood pythons life... I handle my blood only when needed or if shes being tolerant I handle for short periods of time... when she hes hissy... well I put her back and leave her :P shes gotten to the point where I can handle her for probably 30 mins before she shows that she wants back home :) I try to keep handling to less than once a week.

Yea, see that is why I cane here, I figured it wasn't a good idea, bit with their reputation on aggression, o wasn't sure if other was maybe different..

In my opinion, they're not aggressive. That label has been applied by people that don't bother understanding the snake. Bloods are definitely insecure and rather nervous, so if you don't understand that and try to treat it like a Corn Snake or a Royal Python, you're going to have problems.

I'd never call a Blood a beginner snake, and I still have never recommended one after all this time, but for the right person with a solid understanding they can be a rewarding snake.

I don't consider myself s newbie, or intermediate, bit I AK no expert... as you see in my Sig I have quite a few of snakes, but really my brb is my only " hard " snake.... I know I can handle one and gtp it right, I just want to get the best info I can.. and get all my stuff around.

you consider the brb hard? man, and I thought he was easy-medium, I wonder what a truly hard snake is then...

I agree tubs are the only way to go with bloods and short tails.
I have one female that if you put in a cage she will rip your face off,I have kept her in tub for a few yrs and now you can move her from point a to b and back.
The iris christmas tree tub or the vision boa tubs are perfect for adult bloods and stp's

This is site as a tub the VE series which is almost identical to the Iris christmas tree tub. That would be perfect for adults. ReptileTubs.com - Welcome (http://www.reptiletubs.com/main.htm)

I kind of wonder about that. He sell them for $50.00 plus shipping. For one shipped to my house it's $110.00 if you buy more the shipping goes down. But if i wait till right around or after Chrismas the site Stacks and Stacks.com sells them for $50.00 free shipping.

Now that i know for it's the same tubs i'll just wait and order some. Where do you order you from? The only thing that suck with ordering from Stacks and Stacks is they only carry them for about 3 months out of the years.

If i have to keep in a tub, i will, if there is any way i can keep in a tank/custom enclosure, i would rather do that.. but i am not apposed to a tub.

Of course you can use whatever is at your disposal, we're just suggesting that a Rubbermaid type idea is most effective in keeping the snake healthy. They're also dirt cheap and easy to clean.

Just make sure the is good ventilation if you opt for a tub or custom enclosure, it's key to their health.

If you do the custom thing, I would suggest a top-opening design. These things can be a little tricky to approach when using front-opening affairs :)

These things can be a little tricky to approach when using front-opening affairs :)I will be using a 4x2x2 with sliddint glass doors... don't have room for a top opening enclosure.... bit I will start off in a nice tub, or the 20 gallon long with paper towel. Probably use flex watt, seeing as I will have a ton of it... lol.

Sliding glass doors, hunh. You might want to give it several minutes to calm down after you slide a door open since it'll cause vibration and that will put the thing into defensive mode. Best of luck with it and let us know how it's going once you have it :)

if i dont do sliding doors, i willl do opening doors, (like a fridge, )lol cant really think about what i want to say, but ill make a wood frame, and put plexi inside, and have 2 opening doors, so it wont have any viberations.

Are you sure it wouldn't be easier to spend $6 on a clear Rubbermaid container and drill some holes in it? It's like someone designed those things with Blood Python in mind ;)
