This morning one of my red sided girls passed a bunch of "Jellybeans" .

That is what we call infertile eggs, no mating had occurred, she had ovulated but without a male, she passed the eggs out unfertilized.

I took pics to show you what they look like.

And to think that one single cell added (sperm) that these gelatinous masses would have became baby snakes..

We don't know that for sure. But you're the only one with access to the right now to do the comparison

They bear live young.

I'll put up some live birth photos in a bit.

Yea, that had me confused too cause I always though they had live young and there you are showing us infertile eggs.

The eggs remain inside the mother and gestate inside her, upon birthing the only "shell" is a thin membrane that the baby must break through.

Some don't.

There's some great videos showing it if you're interested, just search "garter snake birth" at YouTube.

I watched them and they were very interesting. I'm getting into breeding snakes and for the next few years I'm going to focus on corn snakes, other North American rat snakes and ball pythons, but I will definitely have to get into garters some day. Anyway, thanks!
