I'm posting this on behalf of a friend of mine. She has a rubber boa thats about a year old maybe a little more (dob unknown). The snake has been normal and healthy for the past year. Nothing in the snake's enclosure has changed in the least. However, she is concerned because when she moves her snake or take it out of its enclosure, if the snake is placed back on the ground upside down, the snake doesn't make any much of an effort to turn over and "right" itself. It sometimes coils backwards upside down too. I already checked with her that the temps and everything in the enclosure are right and haven't changed recently. The snake is also now sometimes striking at her prey and missing, not grabbing it, or refusing to eat all together. The snake also appears to stay on the warm side of her enclosure and seems to be pretty lethargic. If the snake doesn't make any improvements she will obviously take it to the vet. But, does anyone have any ideas what's going on here???

Anything she can do to help it until she can get it to a vet? Is this something serious? Or is it just a little brain thing that's probably not fatal? Any ideas on how she can get it to eat if it keeps striking and missing its prey? Any advice would be appreciated I'm sure. She's (obviously) worried about her little scaley friend

No vet needed. Rubbers lay like that all the time. Males more than females. I believe that it is because females are heavier and probably aren't as comfortable as the smaller males.

And remember rubbers don't like it too hot.

Sorry, to add about the not eating....rubber boas seem to like hairless food. You need to feed multiple pinks rather than a fuzzy. Really that is what they do right? They are nest robbers. Eating a whole litter of mouse pinks at a time.

lol, sound like entertaining, yet exasperating snake.
