Hey all. I just got a new amazon tree boa and don't have room for all of them ATM! I have a 30 inch red tail boa in with a 3 ft red tail boa. They are in a 70 gallon aquarium (minus the water!) Can I put my 4 ft boa in there for the short term. I should have my other cage done by tomorrow.

Co-habilitation is sketchy especially with 3 snakes and 2 species. (depends on the species)
My big worry would be quarantine, and the big snake crushing the lil ones.

I would get 2 tubs and set up temporary enclosures for 2 of them. Co-habitation is far to risky IMO.

Its 3 snakes in 1 terrarium.

Thats why I suggested getting 2 tubs.. leave 1 snake in the terrarium and place 2 in tubs.

Had to laugh... love it mate. :D
I think that co- habitation can work fine within the same species, I housed to Bp's in the same enclosure and they did fine, but they were siblings so their sizes were pretty much the same; the challenge is keeping track of their Bm's.

OK. My Amazon would go in his own and my 4 ft red tail would have joined my other redtails. But I dug out an old set up I had forgotten about. The Amazon is staying in a 20 gallon for the night.
you still should be separating the boa's. they will be living in a stressful environment with one another. Even if you need to keep them in Rubbermaid tubs for a little bit it would still be better than cohabitation.
p.s why are you taking in more animals if you don't have the means to properly house them?

I agree that getting tubs so you can house them individually would be the safest option.

Well I planed to have the Atb in a setup I was supposed to have finished by today. The project lost a couple of days due to rain. I am finishing it as we speak.will all be setup by tomorrow am.

I also support the idea of just getting a few tubs, they're handy for quarantine and future situations like this. And the best part? They're cheep.

I really wouldnt risk it.. i put my 5 ft boas together just to clean the tanks.. well i used too.one day they randomly had nice restling match and almost killed each other.. wouldnt risk it..

Bad idea all the way around. Snakes are very vulnerable to stress from cohabitation. Good husbandry is easy, especially when a tub will only run you a few bucks.

Yup, the little one ate the bigger one >_< Or at least it looks that way.

Wow. Nothing like a little gore to get the point across. Nicely done! My wife also wants a Colombian Boa and a Suri to live together. She's not any easy one to convert. I think I'll try this picture! Nice!

yeah, I think it was stephan that posted that elsewhere on here. I find its best to scare your point into people when talking about their pets.

Ah, there's that photo again. Seriously, co-habitation is NOT a good option for snakes that are naturally solitary creatures.

There's been a lot of co-hab discussion lately and I've seen that picture a ton in the past week but it really does get the point across. Tubs really are the way to go though I picked up 3 32qt tubs last night for under $10 at wal-mart last night and they hold temps and humidity perfectly.

Doesn't do much for the eyes though when they're just in a tub IMO. Especially considering how infrequently you're "supposed" to handle a BRB for example. You'd hardly ever see your snake, right? My thing then is "What's the point of keeping this animal in captivity if you see it only a couple/few times a month? I say DISPLAY THE BEAUTY! LOL Ok it's getting late...
Phew, tough crowd.

My BRB is not in a tub she's in an aquarium with a plexi lid on it and it works fine so she displays her beauty. My BP are in tubs for the time being because it was too complicated to keep the temps high enough in the enclosure and I'm not good with building so I have to wait until I can afford nice melamine cages.

Nice. I had a custom built for my BCI, 10'L x 4'H " 4'D. I give her more room than my sectional occupies! Lol Ok, so maybe that's a li'l extreme...... I've been accused of that before.

My Brazilian for sure will always be on display. I just love when she hangs out on her vine they look so cool. I'm planning on getting her a Boaphile when she outgrows her current enclosure.

tubs are an economical choice for beginners and breeders until you can get nice display vivs. My BRB is also in a glass aquarium. You're ok handling a BRB more often than you've probably heard, Nero comes out a few times a week.
edit: I wish my BRB was more active.

Boaphiles are cool. My girl will be in a hex glass display case. I prefer a bit taller than a Boaphile since they're semi-arborreal.

Mine doesn't perch super often but from time to time I catch her out on the vine. She's usually burrowed under the substrate with just her head poking out or in her moss hide even though the humidity is perfect in the cage she loves the moss. I try to take her out about 3 times a week sometimes its a little more sometimes its only once or twice it all depends on my schedule and its been pretty hectic around here lately.

That's good news about the handling since I never see her. She's been in seclusion since she ate three nights ago. Found herself a warm, humid spot in the substrate to hide in under the water dish.

yup, mine likes to do that too, always buried somewhere. They're not semi-arboreal strictly speaking, but like most snakes, have space will explore. Boaphiles are nice, but REALLY expensive, especially for a snake you would rather have on display. I would look into making your own or just using an aquarium.
speaking of handling, I might take him out here in a bit, its been a few days, and I usually like to handle before feeding day.

I can not build for a damn lol seriously and if you order in quantity you get a decent discount and thats what I plan on doing when the time comes.

As soon as I can get a oic from my phone to the site (laptop is out of commission) I'll post some of my Rainbow and her eventual home (which is now inhabited by chickens. Yes, chickens. No, not boa food, egg-producing pets!)

my grandfather is awesome with wood, he told me to come over one day and we'll dig through his scrap pile and see what we can come up with. He makes some great stuff. He even built the semi-functional windmill in his front yard (the blades spin and the top rotates in the direction of the wind)

Ok back to the post, snake will eat each other and their eyes can be bigger then their stomachs.
like people already said tubs are great to keep temps and humidity just right. All my snakes are in tubs until i have a forever cage for them.
