View Full Version : New hognose!
I went to the ETHS expo on October 2nd and got a baby female het albino western hognose. I'm just now getting pics up cause I have been so busy. I will eventually get a male het albino.

Nice pick up!
Thanks! I was going to get a normal for $45, but someone stole them so he let me have her $45 instead of $75.

Keep holding her every day, she'll calm down! What a doll : )

Cute snake :) Hognose have to come out as the number one snake you hear people at the petstore saying aww over instead of gross lol

I absolutely adore hoggies for some reason... I'd really like to own one some day...
Thanks! I don't hold her every day, but she is calming down significantly.

Every day would be too much anyway, it would stress the snake out more than help.
Yea, I was thinking the same thing.

Not if they're anything like garter snakes.

so if (ok lets be serious its more of a when) I set up a garter enclosure so a 20 gal tank... should I put it where there is a fair bit of activity?

Wouldn't bother them. Mine are curious about everything including me and my movement.

I totally disagree! I try to hold each of my snakes for a couple minutes each evening, just when they get active. Both my hoggies sit quietly for a while, then go exploring, and I put them back. Each of the boas just sit there, or hide in my shirt, and all the pythons love to just sit on my belly and get warm.
One of our balls, that we've had since January, is actually completely interested in eveything we do. We'll put her around our neck (she barely goes around) and do chores, and she'll stretch her neck out and peek into things, then pull back and sit there. If she's in your lap she actually stretches her neck up and turns her head and looks around.
She's a doll!
She even likes her head rubbed, and will turn her head to the side that you are rubbing like a dog when you scratch it's ears.
I think short bursts of handling, once a day, is quite healthy for them...UNLESS they are already stressed out in some way, or sick. *shrug*
