Use a dinner plate/Frisbee to avoid substrate ingestion.

I feed my garters all their sticky fish and worms right there on the substrate. But i use those big chunks of bark called ReptiBark, and i tong feed small peices that don't really touch the ground anyway, that works for me.. sometimes i'll just set my snakes on the desk or something and feed them.
My concinnus doesn't have a problem with substrate.... he goes here every feeding. :D

I use Reptile Bark and feed them in their cages. With my snake i just open the door and hold the rat by the tail. Mine all nail them before the rats can hit the cage floor.

I use to feed my Bps on paper towels because I use coconut fiber substrate, however I recently had to fish a long string of it out of his mouth. Now I either feed on a tub with nothing at all or I feed on newspaper.
Personally, I really like the news paper because clean up is much easier in case your snake explodes a feeder.

I feed on the substrate and do the same thing marvelfreak does. Some of my snakes I can actually lure out of their tanks haha

I use a plastic plate and feed themon there.
Feed in cage, if there is a bare spot i try to get them on it but if not, no worries.

judging by location I'm assuming this was directed at the owners of larger snakes, (burms, retics, and african rocks)

I use newpaper now so no issues. But I used to use aspen as a substrate and I always fed in their cages on the aspen. Never had an issue, there was a couple of times they would get a piece of aspen in their mouth and when they did they would just spit it out themselves.

I feed my BP in his cage, but I also use reptile bark and have no problems. I feed my red-tailed boa in a cardboard box or on a cleaned floor and sanitize it afterwords.

yea i could lour my snake out of her cage because she is a retic and always enjoys eating. oddly enough though today when i fed her she wasnt as excited to eat she slithered over to the rat and just bit it she didnt even strike or constrict it. ive never seen her that gentle with her food ever. i think it would be best to feed her outside of the cage because why take the risk of her getting impacted if i dont have to. i know in the wild when they eat they probably get a few twigs or some dirt in their meal, but she isnt in the wild she is in my room lol.
