View Full Version : If money was no object, which snake would you buy?

Just like the title says, if you fell into a ton of money tomorrow, and could buy ANY snake in the world, what would it be? Response should be accompanied with at least one picture.

For me, right now anyways, it would be one of Harry Wessel's Anery Reticulated Pythons (listed as phantasms)
http://www.monstersnakesforums.com/attachment.php?id=10503
http://www.monstersnakesforever.com/forumpics/phantasm4.jpg
however both Harry and Jay(prehistoric pets) have so many amazing animals I don't know if I could ever really decide.

If money were not an issue, I would buy:

0.1 - Palmetto Corn (I would get the male too, but he only sells females ATM)
1.1 - High white Piebald BP's
0.1 - High white Panda Piebald

Goldenchild black (Golden child X calico)
Ghost stripe

If I had more money, I'd get a pied and breed it to a sunfire platinum citron albino... assuming I could stack the odds.

If money was no object, I would build a cement wall that follows my property lines 8 feet tall and be more than happy with the snakes I already have ;)

Okay that's slightly antisocial

I consider all the free roaming snakes back there as part of my collection, the wall keeps them in, and keeps people who could harm them out.

Hahah I got that don't worry. Great way to keep the husbandry spot on.

As I breeder I love what currently exist, but I'm driven to try and make new things, you breed something to something and guess/hope you know what it will look like but surprises are nice!

I think Palmetto is pretty cool but I wouldn't be at all surprised if we find out in the near future that he's just a variation of a leucy rat snake. I believe Don may have hinted towards the possibility vaguely somewhere as well but don't quote me on that. Awesome animal...hefty price tag!

If money weren't an issue, I'd probably expand a little more on my collection, definitely a few more carpets, but most importantly I'd just work at building up an awesome room with super displays for each animal. Sort of like a true mini zoo. Some of the high end snakes, like BPs, are cool but I think it's kind of dumb to pay as much as you would for a new car for a snake, even if you do have the money to throw around. Hope I didn't offend anyone with that, definitely wasn't the intention.

If money were no issue i would have an enclosure similar to the one that Wayne is building for chomper and would buy a Sav - i know that not a snake but :p

If money was no object, I would buy a few hundred acres of their natural habitat range and move there.

Now THAT would be very legal. ;)

Besides the initial cost of housing (800$) if you don't make it yourself Annies are relatively inexpensive to buy, about 120-200 for the animal unless you want a morph and feeding isn't bad either, a rabbit every 2 weeks, about 20$ a month on food tops.
Less if you use Kijiji to find any free unwanted cats and dogs (jk)

Yeah well the housing is only part of what prevents me from getting one. They're not legal in Iowa. I can only wish.

...and sell them for garter snakes!!:D

If money was no object, and i could find one, i think this is it. There are a lot of others, but not exactly unaffordable... san frans are illegal, most of the garters i'd want aren't TOO expensive... but this guy... this guy is awesome.

gotcha, that would make sense then, so its not so much illegal, just illegal without a permit right? or is it another one of those things that varies state to state?

I'd open a reptile rescue. Kind of already started with my 3 adoptions...hey it's a start! But i'm seriously looking into it! I need a house *lol* and the tax stuff, etc. But If i had money i'd just go out there and get all the people who have things they don't want and take them! Not trying to be ritious or egotistical, but a rescue is my goal right now IRL : )
OH but I would have to have some axanthic beauties...hehehe.

Maybe hognose, and ball pythons...oh and a rainbow boa!

No permits, Not even zoos can touch these, The only zoo I know of in the US that has them is the San Francisco zoo.

The specimens in Europe were exported almost 50 years ago before the endangered status.

In fact this is one of the only species of animal at all that has caused federal shutdown of construction sites because one of them got killed by a bulldozer.

Court Motion Filed to Restrict Illegal Sharp Park Golf Course Activities, Protect Endangered Species (http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/news/press_releases/2011/sharp-park-09-26-2011.html)

The San Francisco garter snake has been dubbed “the most beautiful serpent in North America,” and it’s arguably one of the most endangered species, too. All known populations of this fantastically colored snake occur in scarce coastal and bayside wetlands in San Mateo County. The snake’s preferred habitats have been hit hard by agricultural, residential, commercial, and even recreational development — so the Center is working to protect and restore habitat for this rare and unique turquoise serpent.
