Me! Male 5' 6" 167 lbs. Recently started the "too poor to eat" diet. Trying to make it fun, though. It really helps you clean out the pantry too.

I hope we are all good?

I hyper metabolize, so I'm always underweight.

Can't even stay still when sleeping.

I used to be the same, with the amount of ecercise and "nervous energy" i used each day i could never put on weight, used to eat roughly 4500-6000 calories each day and kept a constant 220lbs. Within a year of my accident i had put on 80lbs, have lost some but still not enough.

I'm in the same boat as Spots! I was 5'9" and 185 of muscle in my (American) Football days, and I want to play for my college next year so I need to get crackin', almost 20 pounds of muscle to put on in a year.

My plan is this:

Fall Semester

Monday-

3x6 Bench press, increasing weight
3x6 Incline press, increasing weight
3x8 Flies, increasing weight
3x6-10 Rows, increasing weight

Tuesday

3x6 Squats, inc. weight
3x8 Leg Curls, Leg Extensions, Leg Press, all increasing weight

Wednesday

Same as Monday, but with
3x6 shoulder press (dumbbell or machine) rather than the inclines

Thursday

Same as Tuesday, but with
3x6 Jump Squats rather than Squats.

Spring Semester

My plan is to follow this regimen (http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/wotw72.htm) to a T to try and develop my speed; I was pretty quick in High School but I'm gonna need to take it to the next level to play D-1 ball (even if our school has a poor team lol).

To all of you hoping to lose weight, I'd offer this advice: Cardio will take it off NOW, weights will keep it of LATER. For a truly successful long-term goal, I'd suggest a regimen that includes high-intensity cardio and weight workouts.

Of course, diet is of the utmost importance as well, and will be the biggest challenge for me. I need to make sure to eat healthily, but eat about twice as much as I do now. Tricky for a college student to meet both of those criteria.

For the weight losers, I have two big pieces of diet advice: Cut out all soda and sugar-enhanced beverages, and eat a high-protein breakfast as soon as you wake up. I had pancakes this morning and I'm already hungry. I've had days where a 3-egg omelette holds me over until 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Protein is supposedly the key to craving/hunger control.

Best of luck, everyone, with your goals!! :D

IF anyone has hints on good snack food that is A) nice to eat B) easy to prepare and C) healthy to eat late at night i would be interested!

I HAVE to eat with my medication, breakfast, lunch and dinner are fine but i also need to take some at 10pm and some at midnight - am sure this is why my weight is creeping up as at that time of night it tends to be rubbish/fast food.

What works well for me for as a snack (dunno bout others lol) is a boiled egg. My folks have these little slicer things (Wal-Mart for 3 bucks) that can slice an egg instantly. I sprinkle some pepper on the top and just eat 'em slice by slice!! Lots of protein, not too much bad stuff, and reasonably filling but won't give you ice cream dreams! :)

Funnily enough the past week or so i have had a couple of softboiled eggs for the 10pm snack

Well there ya go!! Hahaha

I can't handle the consistency of softboiled, but if it works for you then by all means! :)

Apple or pear slices with cheese
Peanut butter on whole wheat toast- 1 piece
1 cup Cottage cheese with fresh fruit
1 cup Yogurt with granola
1/2 cup Dried fruit and nuts
Cereal and milk-special k or another healthy kind.
1 piece of rye bread with cream cheese and sliced veggie

Anything listed above is a healthy night time snack ... these are what my doc told me where good choices to take with late night medicine

5'10 240 in January of this year, got down to 194 in July doing Keto (extremely low carb) Had to drop off of my diet due to my wife getting pregnant. I've gained a bit back, sitting around 205. My plan is to maintain where I'm at until the baby is born, then get back to my diet....my goal is 175-180

I was very impressed with how well low-carb worked, such an easy diet. Bacon and eggs for breakfast, turkey taco's (turkey/caesar dressing/cheese) for lunch, jerky and cheese snacks. Dinner is a big salad, veggies and pork/chicken/steak. I've always been a big bread eater and I thought that would be the hardest part of the diet but the low carb tortillas really help out in that regard.

What makes me really angry is how confusing companies, and the government, intentionally make things. I found the diet much easier to understand when I realized that 'carbs', 'starch', and 'complex carbs' all really equal one thing = SUGAR

Of course we gain weight when eating a pound of sugar a day. Grr.

Our bodies don't process carbs well at night. So "diet" nighttime snacks need to be low in or completely lack carbs. Fruit, dairy, veg, or protiens are fine, but no carbs (ie: midnight toast and jam= bad idea)

My favorite is plain greek yogurt with chopped up fruit (or canned friut) mixed in.

My plan is to hit the gym for at least an hour a day. Doing cardio or strength training. We had the owner set up a fitness plan which includes a circuit on the weight machines. I'm not horribly over weight, and I do not eat too awful :freakedout: so I feel if I don't eat when I am not hungry, dieting should not be too difficult. :crazy2: I am ususally pretty active at work, but at home I tend to sit on my butt alot.

I'm 5'5". Last year I got sick of carry around 80 extra pounds that I had been carrying for about 5 years. I have hashimoto thyroid disorder aka slow *** metabolism, lol....and sjogrens syndrome ( I always have to check the spelling on those 2, being lazy so sorry if not spelled exactly right ). I also have osteo arthritis in my lower back and feet, and had been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. I used to be very athletic, but was discouraged and my Docs had me on a lot of meds. Well on August 29, 2010 I said to heck with it and went off all my meds ( not suggesting it for anyone!!!), started eating healthier, and began working out 5 to 6 days a week (cardio and strength training ), I was 218 pounds August 29, 2010, as of right now I am 133 pounds!!! 85 pounds gone and I don't need the meds anymore. No diet pills or fad diets. Just old fashioned common sense and hard work. I still eat healthy and work out 3 to 4 days a week for maintainance. If anyone wants to know in more detail what I ate, etc.....just let me know!!!

Oh please share!!

There was a time in my life when I wanted to lose weight all I had to do was think it and the pounds fell off. Literally, my husband use to be jealous of that.

But now...I have been having the hardest time and I hate it. I actually had to go buy all new clothes because none of mine fit any more. The last time I was this overweight I was pregnant with my son and it's torture on the self esteem.

We have been discussing losing weight as a family because all of us are overweight. My son lost 20 pounds over the summer and I am SO proud of him. The doctor informed my husband he has to lose weight for his health. For me, the extra weight is killing my back (herniated & ruptured disc that pushes on my sciatic nerve) and I don't want to do anything because everything hurts. I know if I can lose the extra weight the pain will decrease but motivation is always the hardest part.

I also found this and thought you guys would be interested:

5'10 215 lbs here lol I was 246 at one point then dropped down to 181. Then the dreaded freshman 15... in my case freshman 40 :P pizza and fast food... :@

thought I would give my insight on how I lost 60 pounds :P only took 6 months too I was really proud of my self

Soooo firstly there is no "quick" way to lose weight there are faster ways than others but no "quick" way... I find people discourage themselves way too often when a weak of dieting has gone by and they may have only lost 1/2-2 pounds of weight.. This is normal

Also losing weight is basically math... there is a certain amount of calories a person needs to sustain their weight without having it drop or lower. if you eat more than this calorie amount you will gain weight, eat less you will lose weight :) simple right?

That being said it was been proven people who count their calories have an easier time losing weight then those who do not.

okay now my best piece of information. How many calories to need to decrease to lose a pound

1lb of fat is approximately the equivalent of 3500 calories... noo you dont wanna do this in one day... sooo if you decrease your daily cal intake by 500 cals a day 500x7=3500 YAY we lost one pound :) you also have to take into consideration any exercise you do and adjust your daily calorie needs accordingly

Here is a link I use to find out my calorie needs
Calorie Calculator - Daily Caloric Needs (http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm)

And heres a link that will help you count calories you intake
FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal (http://www.fitday.com/)

sign up to fitday its free and easy to use search your food and adjust the amount you ate and boom! you will be your goal weight in no time (nooo not tomorrow ;) )

Good luck and I believe in all of you and remember the hardest part is not saying to to a big mac its staying motivated the first few weeks to continue... also something to help you not go crazy have a cheat meal once a week... and that is not a buffet... have a home cooked burger or some red meat or if you have a sweet tooth a small slice of cheese cake :) just calculate accordingly...
I gotta go but I will be back later
