Hi all,
I appreciate the warm welcomes so far. I have another question to toss out. When should I expect my babies to shed? They're about 1 foot long (maybe an inch or two more). Don't know the exact ages. How can I tell when they're close to a shed? Do I need to do anything special to help them? Thanks in advance. Michael

With corn snakes they almost always shed well. Their eyes cloud up and go all milky blue before they shed. (The oil they create to help shed does that) Then it will clear up again and they will shed. It's best not to hold them as it might make the skin stick to the body. Also upping the humidity with some mists never hurts. Or a hide with sphagnum moss also helps.

Cool. I have the humidity at about 65-70% so I should be in good shape there. all their eyes are clear at the moment so probably not going to be for a while. Just trying to plan ahead.

did the breeder give you their feed/shed records?? If so, then you can expect them to shed aprox every 4(ish) weeks or so.

Are you doing anything to keep the humidity that high? Corns do well at around 50% and i give mine a hide filled with damp sphagnum moss that they use when shedding.
You can probably expect them to shed every 3-4 weeks upto about a yr but obviously every snake is diefferent and it depends on their growth rates. My two babies were born within a couple of days of each other and one is now 6-8inches longer and slightly thicker than the other even with similar habitats and the same feeding schedule.

I have a clay saucer at one end on top of the UTH with water in it. They're water bowl is in the cool end.

Do you have a glass aquarium? Sometimes it's not good idea to put a UTH under the water because if it spills it might crack the glass.

I also have found that my corns dont tend to soak in the bowl but they do love the moss, just a thought............. ;)
