I'm new here, so I figured I'd better put my money where my mouth is in the Blood Python department. Enjoy!

Gorgeous Bloods. Bloods are one of my favorite pythons. I use to have a couple years ago and as of yesterday i have 3 Malaysian Bloods babies. Just remember you can never post to many pictures of these beauties. (Hint, hint)

...How is their temperament?

I handle them all regularly and let them roam in their room now and then. Blue is almost always a good boy, but there are times when he's more grumpy.

Wee Bubba is the youngest and most touchy of them. He's quick to react if he feels threatened, but he's never really much of a problem. I can always do what I need to do and he knows he can get at testy as he wants, he's still coming out, lol.

Boom-Boom is the angel of the group. She's not shy, she's not afraid and she's an intrepid explorer. It's not uncommon to see her or Blue scaling 6 foot shelves on a routine basis, or even finding them on the shelf in the closet :)

I'm glad you approve, Aaron. You knew she was going to an understanding and appreciative home, I just wish you could see how happy she really is. Oh wait...you *can*. I posted some footage on her page of my site for ya so you could see her in the sun :)

Hey Todd could you put up a photo of the enclosures of your blood pythons? Bloods are so chunky and I don't know anyone who owns any personally so I've never seen a setup and can't imagine how big those hides must be for a snake so big :p Thanks!

I actually don't use enclosures for my Bloods anymore. Over the years I've simply found them to be too ineffective, so I switched one to a Rubbermaid tub (long, wide and low) and the difference was so great that I haven't looked back since. Now all the Bloods are in tubs and they just love it.

They can still see out but the opacity of the plastic seems to offer them the security they so desire, the humidity is held at better levels and they're super easy to move and clean. They like them so much that even if I pop the lid, they often won't leave the security of their tub for days, and will quite often seek their tub-out if I've had them out for a while and they've had enough. I just point them back to it and they slip right in and assume their "This is MY space" posture, lol.

It's awfully rare that I'll give any of my snakes a hide. If they're moulting, I'll give them something to curl-up under. If they're insecure baby snakes I give them a hide, but eventually they all have to learn to be comfortable sitting in the open. It's just something that I've found to be a useful tool over the past quarter century or so ;)

No problem. Bloods are one of the most insecure snakes you may ever see, so the tub thing actually works really really well for them. They're kinda funny that way, and a dozen or so other ways, lol.

Well you know how to find me if you ever want to shoot the breeze about Bloods. I'm always happy to share what I've observed over the years, and they can be really rewarding charges for the right type of person :)

LOL...oh Aaron, you give me a little angel and then forget all about her (snickers). I don't' have *a* website, I've founded 2 networks, not 1 :)

Well thanks, but what are 'Crips'?

millertime89
10-16-11, 04:01 PM
lol, they're a gang in the US, they're main rival is the "bloods" and they're notorious for bloody killings of each other.
edit: dunno if they've spread elsewhere.

All over Canada too sadly.

Those were the only 'Crips' I could think of, but didn't see how it would relate, hence my seemingly lost question, lol.

No, like my Bloods, I have a zero tolerance policy for nonsense, so they aren't an issue for me :)

Here ya go, a fresh paint job that illustrates the health benefits of using tubs for Bloods. Pardon the mess, Blue had just finished shedding and I wanted to capture a good shot before I had to take him out to clean and he got all grumpy about being disturbed right after a moult :)

This boy turned 10 years old on October 9th, is just over the 5 foot mark and he's in a 48" tub at the moment. That tub is without a doubt his favourite place to be out of all the enclosures I've tried him in.

that is one BIG blood.

He never got as big as I hoped he would, but he is a male so it was to be expected. I suppose I can't complain, he's bigger than both his parents and a whole lot easier to deal with than they were, but 10 years ago there sure weren't many options for a Canadian-bred Blood Python, so I really lucked-out with this boy's looks and attitude ;)

Well thanks! It's all about quality as far as I'm concerned, and he's up there in that department. I sometimes feel bad that he'll never pass those genes to a new generation, but that feeling is short-lived, lol.

No serious keepers in my area that are interested in Bloods. Those that do have interest are the type that swap 'n trade live animals like baseball cards and I wouldn't let one go to anyone who's not going to commit to them. I'm funny that way, lol. Besides, there are already tons of Bloods out there needing proper homes on any given day, so I don't want to compound that problem. Oh look! Turns out that I'm funny that way, too ;)

More people that are into snakes and want to breed need to think this way! You are not funny that way, you are awesome that way!

It's for the over breeding that I warned against my neighbor breeding his bearded because there are so many out there already that I fear are not being taken care of properly it's a sin to just make more for fun

Well thanks, Marvel. I really like 'm too. He's a good lookin' boy as far as I'm concerned. His successor (Bubbles, currently only 2 years old) is also going to be a sharp looking adult :)
