Malaysian Blood Pythons.

Well i got my Anniversary gift from my wife today. I knew she was getting me a pair of Bloods just not from who. Well she got them from Richard Sladick at Snakes4U.com. The parents are from Mc.Peek and N.E.R.D's. I got a real nice surprise she got me 3 Malaysian's. Two male and a female. She got a deal for getting all 3. No bites, but did get a strike from one of the males.

Anyway here a video and some pics i got before putting them up. I am going to feed him Sunday with the rest of my snakes.

The first male is a speed demon. Gave them all a bath, because they pissed all over the bags they were in. He shot out of the sink, across the counter, and straight off the counter. Luckily i caught him in mid air. Think i am going to name him Juggernaut.

Zaradozia Borneo don't get as big and tend to be mellower. They stay more of a brown color. Where Blood turn red with age and get a lot fatter and longer.

I was shocked has hell when i open the box and saw three bags in it. Then she start talking about i need a female Albino so i have two pairs. I think i finally converted her in a snake lover. I never seen her get as hands on and help out with getting the cages set up and getting the snakes settle in. She had asked me what i wanted and i said a Blood. Then she goes i might get you a pair so when they're big enough you can breed them. Over the next month she researched and checked out different breeders all on her own. I think it's safe to say she fell in love with them.

This she did all by herself. :) Said she want it to be a surprise. Hell at one point she had me thinking she might be getting me something other than a Blood. Plus she shocked me by having the third cage set up and had it hid i my sons room. I only thought i was getting two so only had two cages ready.

Thanks Shauny Bloods have always been my second favorite snake right behind Carpets. Now i'll be breading Carpets, Bloods and Rainbows. My 3 favorite snakes.:)

At first look i thought the female was the biggest of the three, but Juggernaut is quit a bit fatter. It was just hard to tell at first because he was moving around so much. I mist there cages and check temps this morning and they were all chilling out in their hide on the cool sides of their cages.

As soon as i pop the lid off to mist their cages all three raise up and S back with that look on their face. I love to catch the little male on video if he does the up mouth swaying back and forth again. It was so cute. I heard of them doing it, but in all my years of being in to snake and owning Bloods before i never seen one do it.

Bloods get on average 4 - 5 feet. The larger size going to females.

Weight wise though they will easily get between 10 - 25 pounds. Again the larger size being females.

Will do. Once they eat a couple times for me i will start handling them and getting some pics. Baby Bloods get stress super easy so i am actually leaving them alone and letting them settle in. Which is very hard for me. lol

Glad to say the littlest one aka Grim Reaper took a rat pup no problem. Try a second one, but he wouldn't touch it. The other two are both in shed and neither one want anything to do with eating.

Yeah i need to get some new ones. My Yellow Anaconda is in shed. I really like to get one of him stretched out to show his size. His grown three feet in the last year. My Borneo is getting fatter. My big Jungle is 13.4 lbs now. I weighed her back in March after she started eating again and she weighed 9 lbs. She packs the weigh on then goes on a 5 month hunger strike every winter. So i need to get a video of her. Might be getting a new camera then i'll be able to get better quality videos.

I just noticed it yesterday for first time. I hope he keep it i think i sweet looking. I think he going to be the looker of the three.
I was kind of shocked after Bloodstorm shed. She actually got darker. The males both have a tan color heads. Hers is Chrome color it's just hard to catch it in the pics. She also got some really sweet bright orange to her eyes.

I am please to say they all ate a rat pinky for me tonight. It's the third time Reaper has ate for me the first for Juggernaut and Bloodstorm. Oh yeah i was doing the happy dance.

That's great! One of the best things about Bloods is their relative size. Their heads and necks are so large that by the time they're 6 months or so, they can take a fair-sized rat and they grow fairly quickly from there.

My Borneo is right at 3 feet 5.5 lbs and she eat rats the same size as my 8.5 foot 13.5 lbs Jungle Carpet.

As for the food it's pinkie rats. I never feed mice. I always start them on rats that way i don't have to try switching them over later. I have to do it before and it can be a pain. Baby Bloods are usually given rat pinkies for their first meal. They might be short, but they're fat. As you can see in the pictures the pinky is the same size as their mid section.

I think for most snakes it's more about how fit or overweight they are. It's hard for us as warm-blooded creatures to burn-off fat, imagine how hard it is for cold-blooded creatures - not to mention how unhealthy it is for either type. Of course, being overweight (a common problem for Bloods) shortens life spans.

I personally knew a boa that was 34 years captive and it was thin as a rake the entire time I knew it. I have no idea if the thing is still alive, but...

Count on anything from 20+ years (under proper conditions). I think the record for a boid in captivity is almost 50 years (47, if I'm not mistaken).

I read a little higher up in the thread about Borneo's (Breitensteini) being smaller than Malasians (Brongersmai). I think that as a general rule, that's probably true. At the same time, I recently got a baby Borneo from a breeder who told me that Momma Breit weighs about 40 lbs. None of my adult Brongs have ever gotten that big.

I read in a old Reptile Magazine once of a Rose Boa that had been in captivity for 60 years and they believe it was at lease 2 years of age when found. If memory serves me right it at a State University in Nevada, or Arizona. I know it was one of the south western states. I need to look and see if i still have the magazine.

I just hope i get to keep them. I was just reading the Dangerous Animal ban they are trying to pass here in Illinois. It Bans all pythons and boas. You have to get a permit to own each one and $100,000 liability insurance on each one. They are trying to Ban just about everything but domestic cats and dogs. If i read it right i have to have a permit to buy rats. Pet Stores will be closing up left and right.

There we go! Now that I've seen what it's eating, I can safely say don't be afraid to double the size of those food items, but just 1 per meal to start and see how that does the trick. Of course, I'm assuming you can get your hands on larger rats when I say that though, lol.

If that size is all you can get, I'd probably pump about 4 of those into it and see if it's enough. It may well need 5-6 the next time. Don't forget, I'm a larger meals with more time between them kinda guy, so you have to take anything that dribbles from my fingers with a grain of salt, and sometimes with a barrel of the stuff :D

Reaper in the first picture ate two. Won't touch the third one. Bloodstorm in the rest of the feeding picture ate three, but would touch the fourth. She was empty because she the one i had to milk. Juggernaut i just put in the water and he went after a few minutes. Juggernaut in shed and only ate one wanted nothing with the second one.

As for size i have bigger rats. When i order them online i was off on their sizes. They where a little smaller than i thought. I am just using those rats up before moving them up to bigger as they are my smallest snakes.

Yeah, they can be funny about food sometimes, which is another reason it comes in handy once they take bigger items because if it's big enough, one seems to satisfy them.
