Just a heads up, Pro-exotics reptiles caught fire and burned yesterday.

Former NFL Star Chad Brown Loses Thousands Of Reptiles In Pet Store Fire « CBS Denver (http://denver.cbslocal.com/2011/09/26/fire-breaks-out-at-commercial-building-in-littleton/)

All of their 3000 snakes but one miracle boa was destroyed in the flames.

This is truly a devastating blow to our hobby, not to mention what it has done to the great people there.

ugh that makes me sick. I feel so bad for all those snakes and the people that breed them and took care of them. It's so sad  I wonder what caused the fire?? I really hope it wasn't someones fault  and that it was a mechanical issue or something out of human control.

It started in the unit next door.

Chad and Robyn travel to Africa to hand pick new BP morphs, These guys are the best of the best.

Many of the animals lost were irreplaceable at any cost.

Thats really sad. To go on a trip and then come back to everything destroyed. I feel sorry for all parties involved.

Thanks for posting Wayne, I was gonna do this when I got to work this morning. Its a shame that they lost so many fine specimens. I'm glad to see that that big one survived. Also they had some eggs that survived as well, they had some pictures posted on FB of a few small green tree monitors hatching.

The strength of the herp community will poor it's self over this matter and make great and wonderful new advancements in their carrier that a clean slate offers the pros but as usual there will be little to no media coverage concerning the rebuild and the strong will of our community and strength will be overlooked until they try and pass the next law. All done by design the media part that is.

what a shame about the morphs he was planning to release this year. I wonder how many years it will take before he is able to breed those new morphs again, if ever. Hopefully not all his breeding notes and records were in the shop.

I wish I was a little closer, I'm on 7 hours away, and would be there to help with the cleanup if I had weekends off.

like he said, there's not going to be a claenup, just a demolition and maybe a rebuild.

infernalis
09-29-11, 09:37 AM
I hope they rebuild, but I understand if they don't.

Snakefood

The impression I got from his responses was that he intended to start over again, either rebuild, or find a different location. Sounded to me like he was waiting on the insurance company to value the total $$, and what they would value the lost snakes at.

the lost snakes is going to be a hassle. I've dealt with my insurance company just for my car far too many times in the past year, and they always try and lowball you. I have a feeling they're gonna try and pull the "they're just ball pythons" card, which simply won't fly. They're gonna need LOADS of documents to recoup all their losses.

Personally have been there & done that.

in 1994 our house burned down, I had a massive record collection, some records worth over $500 each.

The homeowners insurance labeled them as obsolete, and valued them at 50 cents per record. When I tried to challenge it, they asked why I didn't have "those albums" on Compact Disk!!

Snakefood
09-29-11, 12:42 PM
in reality most of those "should" have been listed as "antiques" or collectables at the very least!

I hate dealing with insurance companies.

Snakefood
09-29-11, 02:02 PM
me too! right now we're dealing with ICBC. the car insurance company who has the monopoly here in BC, no competition at all. They don't care who's fault it is, just who's insurance policy costs them LESS $$, whoever's policy saves them the cash is who is judged to be at fault. Unless of course you can afford a high priced lawyer experienced in fighting ICBC.

from the PER staff
Chad, Robyn, Andy, Nicci, Jimmy, the entire staff at Pro Exotics Reptiles are overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of love and support from the reptile community after our recent fire. We have suffered a total loss of our snake collection, and 97% devastation to our business. 20 years of passion and work has been erased in a moment. We face a long and hard road back to success.

We have received offers of aid, fundraising, cards of support, emails and calls from around the world. Unfortunately we are not in a position to accept any animals or caging at this time, we have literally no place to put them, our building is gone. If you would like to make a donation or show of support through these organized efforts online, we would bow our heads and so graciously accept them. The reptile community has simply been amazing. We deeply appreciate each of you, and we know that in the future, we will pay it forward.

In our darkest moment, the reptile community has provided a strong beacon of light and hope. Thank you so much. THANK YOU. -Robyn@ProExotics

So sad to hear about this. I was just looking at their collection of IJJ carpets a little over a week ago and thinking about getting one.
