So i have been studying all ngiht and i decided to draw a little bit... i got the idea of building something else (other than my (3) 4x2x2 enclosures, i will be building (6) 3x2x1 enclosure. I will be putting my 2 BP, 3 Corns, and my 1 king snake in these enclosures, i will be building them out of melamine, so they will be nice and i will have a tolding DOWN door on each cage. they will be all seperate cages all heated with a ceramic heat emmitter, or i will use flexwatt some way.. and everything will be set to a thermostat. they will be setting on top of each other, making them 6 foot tall, same as my 4x2x2 enclosures, it will be a slow process of making these though, probably 1-2 cages every so week or so, AFTER i make my big cages!!!! i am very excited about this project and i cant wait to get started... :)

Good luck with your building, you have alot ahead of you :). My biggest building challenge was building my savs enclosure that was 8x6x6. It took tons of plywood lol

No but Ill deffiately have to take some. My sav Tsey tsey loves the room!! Its big enough to have three large basking areas but still have a temp. variation from a hot and cold side. Awesome idea with the thermostat too, im going to figure a way to fix one up for my large enclosure.

Hubby is building me a rack system out of an old solid wood entertainment stand. I think it will be beautiful.

good luck on your building project!

Thanks. And to you as well.

You may have already thought of this, but put the more temperate species on the bottom, and the royals at the top. Much easier to control temps.

That is what im going to do... also i was just drawing up my plans in class and ive decided that each individual tank will get their own thermostat.

Thanks!

If you are using ceramics you do really need an idividual stat for every set up. I use multiple mats on 1 stat, but with ceramics everyone must have its own thermostat :)

that is what the plan is so far, if i use flexwat or UTH, ill prolly put the bP on 1 stat, corns on a stat, and king snake on his stat...

3x2x1 enclosure (1 being the height I assume)... sorry I have to convert this into centimeters as this is how I think...

1 foot = 30cm

CHE bulb and mount will take up approx 10cm + bulb guard (I would think that you would use them given the close distance) = 15cm. This would leave you 15cm of room between the guard face and the enclosure floor, 15cm = 6 inches. Personally too close for my liking for a CHE and the back of a snake when slithering around. Just something to consider...

My lowest viv in terms of height is 18inches, it has a che in there with a guard and that is about the lowest imfeel happy having the heat source, the viv is for one of my corns who shows no interest in climbing of any sort but i wouldnt want say a carpet python in there with the guard/bulb that low.

How thick are BPs at their widest point (they look like a heavy bodied snake to me)?

if i choose to go with a che bulb i will probably change the height to 1.5 foot... i just cant have the rack like 30 foot tall.... right now i am leaning towards either an UTH, or Felxwat.

never measured... but i'd say idk 4 inches..... i have NO IDEA lol.

Heat panels might be the way to go mate if you want to reatain the 1 foot height.

Exactly like a CHE but only two inches thick...
Depending on the brand and wattage/size you may not even need a cage for them.

these are the radiant heat panels:

could i mount the on the top? and have the heat radiate down?

also i have decided to make them 18 inches high or possibly 24 inches high, and stacking them 3 high, with 2 stacks.... so it will be a big 6 foot, by 6 foot square with 6 cages...

if i do decide and go with 18/24 inch high tanks, then i will use a CHE, if not probably flexwat.

Yes, Thats what RHPs are made to do. I use one in my BPs cage and I love it!

I hooked mine to the top of the viv and leave it alone. I have it on a thermostat to make sure it stays at the right temp and you can see the cord for the prob in the bottom center of the viv right under the panel
http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee454/KAMacie/DSCF0149-1.jpg

The first vent has the cord for my flex watt, I only use the RHP for ambient temp but it does heat up the sub straight very well. The second vent has the RHP cord itself and the 3rd vent has the prob cord. My house gets easily 59-60 f in the winter so I have to have 2 heat sources to maintain a good gradient for my guys.
I hope this helps ....
