This just makes me totally sick to my stomach. The only reason i am posting this is to bring awareness to the dark side of reptiles. These people do this solely to make money. Anytime you see anything made of snakeskin for sale remember this video. This Blood Pythons are being slaughter for nothing more than their skins.
WARNING VERY GRAPHIC VIDEO. If you get sick easily please don't watch.

Sweet, where can I get a pair of blood python boots? Joking that is messed up if they aren't farm raising them. All wild caught...you know what happens next...no more blood pythons... On the plus side imagine all the fecal matter that gets blasted back on them when they release their grip holding the cloaca shut full of compressed air. :)

It would be different if the meat was being used as food.
Here's the thing, we all get upset as hell when we see this sort of thing happening with snakes or lizards.
Just remember where that cheeseburger and chicken wings we all crave come from.
I won't go into details, just google or youtube Veal, Lamb, Beef, Chicken, Turkey, or just about every other living organism on this planet followed by the word "Slaughterhouse" and I all but guarantee you will see very similar sights.
We excuse ourselves for slaughtering mice and rats [how many rodents per day get put down at say just rodent pro alone] so our snakes can eat, we get pissed when someone on a mouse/rat/hamster/gerbil forum calls us monsters for feeding our herps.
It's all in your perspective of what you see before you.
We see an atrocity against animals we love, They see snakes as money / nuisance / dangerous, whatever.
If you really look into the fish industry, those critters are treated as if they have no brains at all, and/or no ability to feel pain, "Fishermen" often leave them on a chain with clips to expire slowly from the gut hook... Etc.
So think carefully before you post ;)

Very true and valid points wayne, however those animals are being killed for food (maybe not the most humane way, and theres no excuse for that) but these pythons are being slaughtered for cosmetic reasons... if you like the look of animal skins then buy replica... the real stuff looks far better on the snakes....

To me it wouldn't be so bad if they were using the meat to for food and not just wasting it. Which they could be doing and the video just doesn't show it. In the one with the Retic i believe they are using the meat. To me if your killing them, but using as much as you can of the animal then it ok. But to do it just for skins or hide is wrong.
Another thing that gets him is how they kill them. In the video with the Bloods the guy hits the one like three times before it stops moving. Even then your not sure if it's dead before the blow air up it's ***. At least in the Retic one they chop the head off quick and fast. Years ago i use to work at a hog processing plant one shot and it was over quick and fast. As humane as you could get and they use 99% of the hog.

Slaughter houses should have more regulations, the animals should have to be kept in a more humane environment and killed in a humane manner and it should be for food only. Killing animals for cosmetic reasons is just wrong in my opinion. Same with animal tesing, as humane as possible and only for reasons involving medications and saving lives and only if completely necessary. Testing cosmetics on animals is just wrong too in my opinion.....I always read labels!!! That's my stand and I couldn't watch the video either, can't stand to see anything treated cruelly.

I didn't watch the video yet, but I will give my points on how I feel about the fur/skin industry in general. And this goes for ANY animal...since in some countries they use cats and dogs for furs since it is cheaper.
It doesn't bother me that people are using skin or fur for anything. It doesn't bother me that the meat is wasted in this process. Nor do I really care that they aren't treated 100% humane before being killed or during the killing process. Most of the time these animals are mostly under a year old (younger fur is softer fur) and don't know the feeling of anything other than what they have lived in from the get go.
Now what I don't like is when people take pets, wild animals, or otherwise well treated animals to use for the fur/skin industry. It doesn't sit well for an animal that has known freedom, comfort, ect. to suddenly be thrown into a horrible lifestyle and/or be killed in a horrible manner JUST for the fur/skin.
Now as far as meat animals go I think it is perfectly fine for a animal in the wild, a "pet" (in the case of people keeping cows, chickens and pigs), or large scale farmed animals to be killed for food. I also understand the need to make it an assembly line due to the sheer quantity that is in demand. If you took the time to do it nicely in whatever form you consider nicely then it would be a waste of money and time AND we would end up with the brunt end when meat prices shoot up.
And while I am stepping on toes I will even go as far to say that the people in other countries that eat horses, goats, dogs, cats, ect. that we consider taboo to eat...all the more power to them. Again its all meat in the end and I know that if it came down to starvation or your dearly beloved fido you would chow down in the end.

Yes I realize that youngster and it is very sad. What you won't see is practices like this in the US (or shouldn't since they are regulated by the government). In fact you make more money farming your own animals rather than catching wild ones. But that is also a poor country without the real ability to farm animals like we can over in the states.

We also don't need to eat hamburgers, or other meat products to live. There are alternatives. There is no difference between snakes and cattle except YOU like them more. Favoritism. Principles are the same. I'm assuming you're a vegetarian because you dont NEED to eat a poor cow or chicken?

I'd be willing to bet almost all leftovers get used if it's a third world country or in a place with small villages. The "hungry villagers" (if there are villagers) probablly turn stuff we wouldn't think of eating into food.

I second this.. We are far more wasteful than places like that are. I'm ok with what they are doing as long as they use all the animal they can. I don't care for how they kill the animal but it's a different country and things are done differently. I hunt and they might not like how I do things or how much of the the animal I use..you have to watch and read about things like this with a VERY open mind. Just because we don't like it doesn't make it wrong.

Blood pythons are beautiful snakes. Very sad, but the difference between this and chicken, etc... is that we don't wear the chickens, we eat them. Not just for a stupid fashion when theres plenty of other choices available.

I'm pretty sure that it never states that they don't eat the meat. If they did eat the meat and use all the other parts of the snake would you still feel the same way??

If you eat it to survive or to provide healthy living, I would eat a snake. Why not?
This is just wasteful and moronic in my opinion.
Then again, I'm not into clothing all that much.
I'd eat any animal if I had to survive. There's food choices available and I choose to eat beef, chicken, goat, etc... more of the "normal" foods.
This reminds me of shark finning. If you don't know what that is, you should look it up. :sorry:
I'm against hunting if you're not going to eat the animal or use the animal to be useful other than it's coat or fur. Realize that I'm not against hunting if you're going to actually eat the animal or at least feed your own animals, etc... The point is, don't waste the animal.

The point I'm trying to make is the fact that we are not looking at the whole picture here.
Maybe they eat the meat, I am willing to wager that they do, it's much like fish, it's a very lean flesh rich in protein, to a starving people, the carcasses are good as gold.

(darn again its been a while since I've been on here :P) also I am also a vegetarian and Wayne I do agree with you as long as they aren't being overly wasteful with any animal then my stand on the subject is to each their own... personally I would go back to eating meat again on the condition that I hunted everything I ate... however... really bash em with a stick? there has got to be better methods :S... I generally have a dislike for slaughter houses is all...

The only thing that bugs me is that the snakes aren't killed humanely or quickly. Inflating the animal while it's still alive is pretty brutal.

I agree with Infernalis- our meat that we eat comes from often very rough conditions. I've heard that they use a nail gun to put down pigs and cows in slaughterhouses. To me that's terrible. I don't want to think about it, but I still eat meat. I wish they would do it more humanely, but I can't change it. I do think that if they are going to use snakeskin, they should be farm-raising the snakes, and euthanizing humanely- I couldn't even see what they were doing to put down the snakes in that video, but it couldn't have been easy on the poor animals. I got through about 30 seconds of the video and had to turn it off. I can't stand watching anything like that.
Also, like others pointed out, if they use the meat, and they could grind up the bones for dog/cat food or fertilizer- at least it's not a waste.

cost and speed my friends, cost and speed. I'm sure the FDA has rules on what is allowed, I can't imagine using a nail gun is allowed.

Kyle, I don't know for sure, but it's a nail-gun-type thing that shoots a rod right through the center of the skull. It's supposed to be a humane, instant death...but I can't see how it would be.

One unfortunate thing we have to remember, even though it may seem "nicer" to drug the animal first, it would circulate in the blood and contaminate the meat.
Brain destruction sounds brutal, but it's absolute and quick, any further twitching after that is erroneous electric signals causing reflex twitching.
I have seen animals with the head completely removed twitch about for many seconds after death.

I have gone to a slaughter house.. It is a nail gun in many ways. The cows feel nothing once it is fired. Places that do not do thousands of cows a week are not that bad. The one I went to was VERY clean and the Live animals where kept separate from the dead. The cows seemed calm until they where locked into a stall but then there was only 20 seconds left... This is a harsh reality for many people. Some people think that the meat they eat comes from the store and have no clue what lies behind the scene. If more people where aware some things would change however most would not.
Things like this are while I will continue to hunt for my food as much as I can.

Depends on what I'm hunting for and what guns my Husband has in the house at the time. He has his FFL and runs a small business selling guns. When it comes to bird hunting I use my Stoeger 20ga .. its a cheap gun but I don't miss anything with it. Then for deer normally I will use my Ruger m77 International .308 for the same reason as my shotty. I shoot very well with it. Those are my most common guns...

These videos are repulsive.
In my humble opinion, using ANY animal for its skin (or its meat), before the natural death of the animal, is wrong. I'm sure it's especially upsetting for us here on ssnakess because we love our reptiles and can't fathom how someone could possibly do such a thing. Unfortunately many of these industries are located in countries where someone might be put into the situation of "working there, or not working at all"... and that might be what they have to do to support themselves or their family.
