Thanks evyerone :) and Yea, i really like the back half as well, He already switched ot rat pinks, first try after coming from mice only, i am just curious as to when to switch up in food size, like he's rather small, but some people just feed more at a time where as some go witha larger meal.

from my understanding its better to go with a larger prey item then feeding more than one, and I think you switch to a larger size when his food becomes narrower than the widest part of his body and the food lump disappears in under 24h

but I could be wrong

I would feed rat pups or fuzzies. Carpets can easily take something 2 to 3 times the size of their med section.

Here's some pics of my 9 month old Coastal Jag eating a small rat for reference.

First pic looks like there's know she could eat that.

Last her polishing it off.

Whoa, that's a big meal! Now if you're feeding prey of that size, how often are you feeding? Every 14 days?

Yep once every 14 days. :)

That makes sense. There is a corn snake feeding/growth study that Brian from BHB Reptiles is doing and so far the corns that are fed one bigger meal once a week are doing better than the ones that are fed smaller meals more frequently.

My JCP takes prey approc 3 times the width of its body every 14 days, carpets are eating machines!

Thanks I will make sure to continue wit hupdates as he colours up :)
And so i should try for rat pups, I have some for my BP, a few smaller ones. Tryign to feed him a larger food item wouldn't hurt him right?
Cause I'm pretty sure the rat pink's lump disapear in just a bit over 24 hours

a carpet will take prey items 2,3,4 times their girth

most of my carpets follow the above except one,she only eats prey that imo is way too small for her

when you switch to rat pups do not be alarmed if your carpet has runny poo.most hatchlings get this on pups.i think its because rat pups are full of milk

you could try a rat fuzzy, something with fur on it

So I fed him a pinkie just to see how long the lump lasted since i have to get rid of them anyways, trns out there was bairly a lump and was basically gone in the morining, the only issue I'm having is the place where i get my food doesn't sell fuzzy rats, only pups which seem a little large for him, should I try to feed him one and see if he takes it? or feed him more often until he's a bit larger?

Without seeing snake and rat first hand it is hard to say but i am more inclined to feed large prey less often rather than lots of small items.

he will manage a rat pup no problem mate

i start all my hatchling carpets on rat pups

you would be surprized at how LARGE a prey item a carpet python will take

Well feeding day and he took it like a champ, took it right away after being on mice, then rat pinks for only 2 weeks. He got it down without an issue and looks like he's going to explode!
Thank you guys very much for the help :)
