I went to feed Celli today, and I used boiling water for heating purposes. The mouse I used ruptured while Celli constricted, and guts got everywhere. Still safe for his consumption, I'm certain, but how can I avoid it happening again? I've not the strongest stomach in the world :$

don't use boiling water to thaw. warm water is the way to go, takes longer but doesn't cook the mouse.

I just take them out for an hour before I feed.

Ah okay, I figured it had to do with the water temperature as I've been using sink water to heat them to feeding temp and I've never had issues. I've recently moved into an apartment and so out of consideration for the roomies I decided against using our sink for Micicles.

Thanks all :)

Although it was kinda cute watching him look around for the mouse that HAD to be there somewhere...kept nosing the entrails all confused like. "No, that's not a mouse...it smells like it but it doesn't LOOK right..."

I have a big bowl that i bought from the dollar store that i fill up with warm water to use. put the mouse in a ziploc bag if you don't want it to get wet.

That's a really good idea I'm going to do that from now on. Warms it up but doesn't wash away the smell as much.

Good call! Better get me one of those :)

And I'm still using pet store mice so they come with their own baggies...I need to find a cheaper alternative though, now that he's on 2 fuzzies.

Try ordering bulk or hitting a reptile expo. you usually get the best prices there.

I am not so worries bout washing away the smell it is more so I don't have to wait for it to dry. Less substrate sticking to it.

ever heard the saying "you smell like a wet dog"... Works with this too, the water increases the mice scent.

I just let them thaw on the counter. Every other feeder gets dipped in water to add a bit more hydration.
