View Full Version : Wild Garter Snake Eating Toad
Just thought I'd share my dad emailed me this picture from our back yard in southern Ontario. Does any one know what it is.

Off the top of my head it looks like some type of ribbon snake.

Is it just me or is that a massive toad for that snake.
The toad inflates as a defense mechanism.

That is a Thamnophis Sirtalis Sirtalis, a High red Eastern Garter snake, often called "Flame Garter" snake.

i was about to say, looks like a garter to me lol. i've seen a similar picture posted by you probably.
Yea that's what my dad said it was, but I haven't ever found one with such beautiful reds.

I wad going to say Garter but it was the red's that threw me off too.

the infernalis and SF garter have really nice reds and blues also, i like them.

To bad that Garter doesn't have fangs to "pop" the toad like a Hoggie can do :)

I have witnessed this more than once, the snake will push that air out, the last thing that toad will ever do... exhale that last breath.
