Can you all list some pros and cons of all the snakes I said in the title... still undecided on what one to get, please put all pros and cons ( I.e. price, aggression, caring... ect...) like previously stated, I will be making 3 4x2x2 enclosures, one for brb, one for bearded dragon, and one for what ever one of these I pick... also maybe throw in any other suggestions... thanks!!!!!

We have a SD and a Carpet, personally the SD is my favourite because....
The JCP is more bitey, less easy to handle and generally more ornery. The SD is daft as a puppy, handles well and is much less frantic.
Obviously these are just my experiences with 2 snakes - i have no other experience with other carpets or SD's

A male sd caps off at 5-6 feet, females are 6-7.
price is 200-400+ morphs being way more expensive.
I'd say Sd, but you shouldn't jump into retics unless you are confident.

Reptile peices over here seem alot higher than in the us, we paid £500 for our SD but did then talk them into throwing in the full setup for about 10% of its real cost!

An IJ would be great. They are a little nippy when they are young, but I love the curiosity and good attitude of most adult carpets. Just my .02

sd all the way, their is no question about it lol retics are the best snake OMHO, I love carpets, but retics have always been my favorite, my Bella girl is such a sweet heart, i would go as far as saying she enjoys my attention, not head shy at all, and she moves her eyes as she watches me, i dont notice it on my other snakes, or maybe i like her so much im blind to the others lol, but << if i were to open the cage and reach in she would surely bite me long before i got close to the open door, most of my boas and carpets, would not launch out and bite anything it could like she will with out proper hook training, but as soon as i pet her a few times with the hook and move her a little, she snaps out of feed mode, and i can reach in and grab her. retics Need to be respected, you need to hook train, you need to be extra carefull at feed time, its a feeding responce that needs to be seen to fully understand and they strike pretty fast and HARD or at least mine does, way harder than any other snake i have, and she is contantly popping her rats. with that said you cant go wrong with any on your list, they are all great snakes. although im not to fond of bloods

ya its more costly in canada as well, are prices were about $500 for a sd regular morph, i paid $2000 for bella in 2008, and she is a dwarf. we cant buy retic here any longer :(

Move to QC :)
Retics will always be the best snake in my books, if you do it correctly and research first you will love every minute of it in most cases. (cleaning poop excluded)

+1 - IJ's are a nice size with lots of personality.
Not sure that I'd want to jump to a retic if your BRB makes you nervous.

I second that. Out of the four the Irain Jaya or RTB would be your best bet for a mellow snake. If you want something that will keep you on your toes then go for a SD or Blood. You could always go with a Borneo or Black Blood. They stay smaller and are less aggressive.

Carpets are pretty jumpy when young but consensus seems to be that most mellow to puppy dog tame around 2 years of age. My coastal girl is transitioning right now. She is about 18 months and a bit jumpy when being held but is no longer nippy. She seems more curious than fearful these days.

I'd say IJ carpet as well. They can be nippy as hatchlings but will outgrow that as they get a little size to them. My Ij jag was pretty nippy for a few months then it seemed like he had a shed and all of a sudden he wasn't jumpy and nippy anymore. I would personally go for a carpet. I would think they would be a good snake to start with if you want a more curious, active snake.

IJ are 10x better looking in person, i find you just cant capture all the highlight they really have in a photo. check one out in person if you have not already, and im not you will bring it home with you. :)

If you want a mellow snake to fit in a standard 4x2x2 get a woma...
As long as you don't smell like food or handle when it's hungry then you've got yourself a reptillian puppy...

Rtb or bci... but if your brb makes you nervouse then an adult boa may intimidate you. My young bci is a little jumpy/nippy but its just because shes sooo small atm lol.

I haven't had neonatal IJ's but they can't be any more bitey than little BRB's :)
My yearling and adult IJ's are sweethearts. I tend to hook them out of their cages to prevent bites. Never had a problem once they're in my hands. Also, they're gorgeous

I thought about one of these, also maybe a white lipped python.

i think a rtb for some reason would be calmer than my BRB.. its just a psychological thing i guess...

An rtb may be calmer but when buying any snake you have to take their individual temperaments into consideration. And be prepared to deal with it if you get a grumpy one. :)

This is what makes them so cool fat like a Burmese but shorter.
Borneo and Black Bloods tend to be mellower than Reds Bloods. Plus they stay shorter. But lets face it Reds have awesome color as adults. Here's a video of my Borneo.

hey its been a while since I posted on here but I have a bit of input for bloods :) I have 1 Sumatran at the moment named Mary :) I think shes a sweet heart, however she intimidates a lot of my friends and roommates. She has attempted to nip at me only once and it was then I was putting her back in her viv after feeding... I think I smelled like rat... my mistake :) other than that Blood have really bad reputations about being monstrous jerks... I think this is undeserving I read that WC blood are real pains in the butt. that being said I am still fairly cautious with Mary... he feeding response is phenomenal and shes only a year old... on Thursday she struck so hard she ripped the tail off of the rat i was holding with my hemostats...
I also really love the colour of Mary, she blends so well into the substrate it can be a little frightening when you lift the hide and only see a head knowing there is another two feet on snake under there :D
I actually love bloods so much that I am planning on breeding them in the near future :) I want to get my hands on some higher end morphs and a few more females. I also have a deal planned out with a local Toronto reptile specialty store for when I start breeding :)
that also being said if you are going for a red blood python you have to understand that their sizes can be very intimidating when they are full grown... up to 7 feet and the girth of a football... not a snake you want to aggravate :)
hope this helped if you have any questions I am more than willing to answer what I can :)

Ohhh one more thing while handling a blood python remember to support their bodies as best as possible typically with your forearm and also avoid a closed grip I find a lot of them really don't like you fingers around their bodies... just calm and slow open palmed handling :)

SD for sure.
Retics are awesome and the SD gives you that fun in a managable package.

Not sure that I'd want to jump to a retic if your BRB makes you nervous.
i keep carpet pythons into double figures.....
only 1 is bitey the rest are pretty placid when it comes to handling
not trying to be cheeky but.....
if 1 bite from a brb has you nervous of bites, then a retic bite will definatly give you more of a shock
retics are fast muscular very powerfull snakes, they hit hard when they strike you
carpets are fast muscular and have enough power to bruise you with a strike.imo no where near as hard as a retic but most likely along the lines of your brb
most carpets i have encountered are ok when it comes to handling
they will however strike you if.....
you move your hands too fast
if they are hungry
if its the early evening and they're in hunting mode
sometimes if you approach them from above
if you starttle them
having not had the pleasure of keeping retics,i cannot comment on what may initiate a strike from them
willow on here had to get her finger stitched after her retic decided she was food :shocked::shocked:
cheers shaun
